I make GM soaps and was wondering how to get more bubbles with it. I'm okay with the amount now but DH isn't liking it as much. I was reading somewhere about adding sugar to it? I'm still fairly new at making soap and don't want to have a bunch of wasted oils!! lol

Okie dokie. I'll find a couple other topics. We've talked about it a lot recently. :)

Ok, so I'm not finding the topics I wanted. Anyway...

I recently used 1 TBSP sugar per pound of oil and I think that's kind of the going amount right now. I'd have someone back me up on that to know for sure. Add it to your water before you add lye.

What other oils are you using? Any castor?

I add 1 TBSP of confectioners or icing sugar , before the lye , SB the heck out of it and proceed as usual.

I'm using OO, CO, and Lard. I couldn't find castor oil....:(
I'll try 1 tbsp per lb on my next batch though.
Thanks! :)

I do 1 tbsp ppo of either sugar or honey. I also lower my superfat to 3% when doing full goat milk soaps so that the milk doesn't kill my lather. Works great!

Can you add "powdered sugar" to any recipe to get more bubbles? And stick to this ratio 1 Tablespoon per pound of soap you are making?? Am I understanding this clearly??????? Just add it to the water, stir till it's disolved, add the lye and move on as normal??????

Yes you can and yes you do .I can't make a batch without it anymore . lol

ETA more info

I add raw sugar at 1T ppo dissolved into some of my water amount and blended into my oils before adding the lye water. I am a chicken and don't want to add anything to my lye other than water and silk. I find that blending other ingredients into my oils first (before the lye) including GM works fine. If I want to make a 100% (of the liquid) GM soap I usually use half liquid GM and add powdered GM to that to make up the rest.

Tanya :)

I just began adding sugar 1 tbl per pound and I have tons of bubbles now. By the way, I used brown sugar and it worked. FYI!

KTN,
Can I ask you why you choose to use icing sugar instead of just plain sugar? Icing sugar is superfine sugar mixed in with cornstarch. Does the cornstarch add something to the soap?

Brown sugar is superfine sugar mixed with corn syrup.
Thanks.

is this true for all brown sugar? :( my DS is allergic to all corn products and if this is rue it explains a lot! it also depresses the heck out of me as i am already having to make from scratch everything he eats pretty much!

i always, ALWAYS forget the sugar until the lye is in the water.

just FYI, sugar does not incorporate into lye mixture.... at all...

This says molassas. Sorry.I thought I once read corn syrup. I would check with the manufacture to be sure.

I am sorry to hear about your son. Corn syrup is an ingredient in so many processed foods and drinks.

Confectioners sugar has corn starch in it.

Icing Sugar is just sugar, Icing Sugar mixture has cornflour added so it doesn't clump. :)

Actually icing sugar is just another name for powered sugar. Its called different names in different countries. I have never heard of the difference between icing sugar and icing mixture. Sugar is called sugar unless it has additives. Then it is given another name.
I see Kitn refers to it by both names so that is why I am asking the question. Does the corn starch do any thing for the soap?
