Hi all! I have been formulating lotions and body butters for about a year and experimenting with different ingredients. Through research, trial, and error I learn more all the time. Is there a book anyone could suggest that outlines ingredient explanations, purpose, how and why they work, substituting, etc.? I do a lot of individual research but it would be great to have a book as a guide to continue experimenting. Thank you!

Susan Barclay Nichols at Swiftcraftymonkey.com provides oodles of well-researched information on ingredients, methods and recipes for lotion, shampoo, conditioner, etc. It’s mostly behind a paywall with different levels of access depending on the monthly fee you pay. I think it’s a goldmine, but others find the site overwhelming. She sells e-zines on special topics on her website and also through LotionCrafter.com.

This is great, thank you. I’ve come across the website several times, but wasn’t sure I wanted to invest in the membership cost. Sounds like it would be very worthwhile. I’m going to do that. Ty

Here's where you can find the information on the subscription levels:
https://www.swiftcraftymonkey.blog/membership-account/membership-levels/

The Foundation ($5) level gives access to almost everything. I joined as a $10/month member, which is now "Innovation" level for $15/month. Although I haven't made full use of the perks, I will stay at this level for now because I've used all of the discount coupons for the e-Zines and e-Books.

As an example of what you can get with the coupons (or you can buy directly), here are three screen grabs of the table of contents from one of the recent e-books on making light lotions.
