bloggers and giveaways

I seem to get bombarded on a regular basis by bloggers requesting free product in exchange for a plug in their blog. I've done a few of these...but it has never resulted in any sales of any consequence. Do you do these giveaways? What do you think determines effective giveaways? I still can't figure out the blog world much.

I get tons of requests for these too. I can not say I have ever participated. If I thought it was my target audience & they had hundreds of hits a day I might.
