I am looking at buying a couple new loaf molds (preferably without having to line them). I really want to try their silicone loaf mold but am wary since the price is so awesome. Anyone have experience with these molds?

My main concern is bowing of the mold after pouring and are these molds oven process safe?

I guess also, most my loaf batches I make now are CPOP so if given the chance, would you buy a wooden mold with a silicone liner, or just go straight to the silicone liner since you are ensuring gel with the oven anyway?

Sorry I have not used these molds but have to say his customer service is great I am a stamping hog when it comes to the stamp section LOL

Jess, I was about to ask a similar question. I was recently looking at the user reviews on a silicone loaf mold, which I REALLY want, but they mentioned that the bowing was indeed a big issue. They did mention that putting the mold in the box it came in, helped with this. I have no idea what the box it comes in is like.

What I was curious about is where I can find a wooden mold with a silicone lining. Or do the silicone molds naturally fit perfectly in the wooden ones? I'm looking for what the "Soaping101" lady uses. I can't seem to find them. If you know, please give me a link.

I have no idea about CPOP in the wooden mold case, but I imagine, since the oven is at such a low temp, it wouldn't pose a problem.

However, they say that wooden molds insulate well and aid gelling, so I imagine something wood would be useful.

I recently bought 2 of these molds and have not experienced any bowing. The sides are reinforced just like a Crafter's Choice mold. I love the acrylic dividers. They are a joy to use truly.

Brambleberry has wooden slab molds with silicone liners (liner is here).

I was looking at this one. I think she's posted here before too about her molds. They look nice, and sturdy but with the ease of silicone.

What is the bebe collection? I haven't heard of this before.

the molds from nurture supply are very good. I have the smaller mold and it works great, releases easily.

I have a question, when you buy a mold, say, for instance, a 2 lb mold. Are they referring to the weight of the finished soap (i.e. weight of the oils and lye-water combined), or the oils used? I've been wondering this before I purchase. I make batches using 3 lbs of oils, and I've been wondering if a 4 lb mold is what I'm looking for. Or two different 2 lb molds could do just as well.

Hi Lotus- for example, I currently use a recipe with 32oz oils and a 33% lye concentration. My recipe and mold end up making approx. a 42-44oz batch using the 8" silicone molds from either BB or WSP. (BB used to offer the 8", but it's been changed to a 10"). I would think (without doing the math) that you're looking for between a 4 and 5lb mold. What I would recommend is find the mold you like and change your soap recipe to fit the mold. Someone has a great calculator that recalculates your recipe quickly for different volumes. I'm sure someone else remembers who has the calculator, but I can't think of it.

While others love Bebe's Collections, I had a different experience. I CP and gel and both molds I bought from him bowed - can't even get the bottom screw together on one of them anymore. Also, a stamp I got from him lost one of it's letters. When I called, the owner was so insulted that I questioned the quality of his items that I ended up just eating the cost. But, again, others love his molds.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I think at this time, I am just gonna buy two silicone molds (8in) from WSP and call it a day.

I have the silicone mold from WSP and it releases so nice. But I also put it in a wooden box to support the sides/bottom because after a couple of batches I got a little bowing. Not much that a little planing won't take care of but I had the wooden box so no biggie.
