I bought those delightful little heat seal bags and set off to create a treat for the bath. I came up with a mixture of ground oatmeal, epsom salts, baking soda, etc, and a few different dried plants for scent. They feel wonderful for a while, then SOMETHING in the combination starts to inflate the bag and then the slightest amount of pressure (rubbing it on your skin, etc.) makes it blow a seam and peices parts float all over you and the bath tub. Particularly frustrating on the ones that have rose buds in them....it's a horrible, icky mess to have floating around you. I have switched to muslim bags but I have tons of the heat and seals left and I liked them better. Any ideas as to what was causing the air build up??

Thanks!

I can't help you, but OMG, I think I know what you are talking about!
I bought my daughter a bottle of bath salts on etsy.
They came in one of those bottles that has a lid with a metal swivel type snap close thingy, understand that?

I don't.

Anyways, I was at her house one day and I had to potty. I seen that bottle sitting there on the sink and thought I would smell it, seeing as I didn't think to smell it when I bought it.
Well,,,,I released the snap thing and that top exploded right off the bottle and there was salt EVERYWHERE! Thank God it was my daughters house, had I been at a friends house or something and did that, I would of died! Thats what I get for nib chitting!!!

I can't imagine what is in it to cause that reaction??

LOL DeeDee that had to be a fun experience I'm sure.

LJA,
No there isn't any citric acid. I am wondering if it's the baking soda causing the pressure as it gets wet but was hoping someone may have a clue before I start removing one item at a time for testing purposes.

I just googled and you're right...it's the baking soda. See second to last paragraph...

Kudos to you LJA!! Thank you so much! I don't think it is the baking soda as much as the oatmeal and some other ingredients that make it as nice as it is anyway so I don't think I will miss it much by removing it. Thank you again for your keen googling skills. :D
