I'm doing my first monstrously large rebatch and, trying to make myself smart, have been watching youtube videos. I came across this one, a person called Nancy who has 4,775 subscribers.

I hate to be judgmental (lol, no I don't), but the way she works makes me mental. The mess on her work area, the filthy pot she works with, the way she measures, she wears no gloves and just sloshes the lye around, and what's with that cough?

If the link below doesnt work for you (I'm on my iPad and am not sure that the link copied okay), google "nancy today soap 93", it's worth it. For me, it's absolutely awful, and she's really teaching bad practices.

Oh, embedded youtube videos !! Neat forum feature ... thanks for that.

YIKES!!!!

And we were worried about a Zap test being unsanitary?
After watching this, I'm soooo happy I make soap for my family and friends.
Can you imagine having purchased some of her soap and then seeing this?

Keep it clean, ladies!

LOL I know what you mean Hausfrau007. I discovered her youtube channel about a year ago and while I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've said, I cant stop watching her videos. Its like watching a wildlife show on the nature channel or something.

Lol, I totally agree. It's like a train wreck, and I can't stop watching. One thing is for sure: she does not share my clutter issues!!

Her soap practices arent top notch but shes a sweet and interesting woman. I have enjoyed her videos before. But yes her soap practices drive me a little nuts lol its hard to watch someone like that when you are the opposite but it works for her i suppose. :)

OMG ... the measuring! I'd be scared to use that soap!! And I'll admit I can have a pretty messy workspace at times but not like that!

Since starting soap making this week my husband has proclaimed that we look like we are on the tv show Breaking Bad when we glove and goggle up! Her video reminds me of the episode when Mr. White a Jesse go to Mexico to make meth in the yucky lab.

To be honest I don't use gloves or goggles with I mix my lye. I know better, but I mix and measure it outside using a deep plastic pitcher that I slosh around (gently) with the lid on pointing away from me. If I hurt myself it's my own fault, but I would never make an instructional video for beginners without all safety precautions present and emphasized.

I'm the same! Mix outside, but no gloves or goggles. They're too cumbersome for me. I've actually had more accidents using gloves and goggles than without because I can't get a grip on the container or can't see properly.

No way gals, it's full on Bill Nye the science guy attire when I soap!
Actually hand me down safety goggles, and disposable latex gloves. One lye burn on my hand was enough.

I suit up, too, thefarmerdaughter. Goggles and gloves, long sleeves. I want a lab coat! I splurged on these cute pink goggles from Bramble Berry, and I also wear disposable gloves.

I admit I haven't made it through one of those videos by Nancy Today, but I love watching Celine and Titch! I have learned so much about colors that I just can't wait to try from her. I could listen to the two of them talk all day.

However, Celine doesn't wear gloves, and you never see her face, but she makes reference to wearing glasses.

Yeah, gloves were a disaster for me too. Although I forgot to mention I wear glasses anyway so my eyes are sort of already protected.

Argh! Show me what the loaf looks like cut into slices ARGH!

I wear gloves, goggles, and mask. Lye fumes will destroy your respiratory system. My first couple of batches I suited up like I was going into a Contact Isolation room, then I got lax and didn't bother, and it all went along ok. Then one day I burned the snot out of my thumb while making cupcake frosting. The ziplock bag got a hole in it and it seeped out onto my thumb that already had a ****oo on it. Then I noticed that I had an irritating tickle in my throat after making soap and my eyes would be bloodshot and burning. So now I am back to wearing my ppds.

You subscribed too didn't you? LOL!

Pshshsh. Prove it.

I've always suited up but haven't taken it totally serious until I received my first lye burn on my foot. That ****e hurts! Since then, i make sure to wear long pants and long sleeves in addition to goggles, gloves and an apron.

If you need any convincing, google lye burns. That'll scare you straight. It's not worth taking this lightly, it really isn't.
