Just found this thread Rhonda....sorry no one has answered you. I haven't swirled with clay but I did add 1 tablespoon of Aussie yellow clay to a 2# batch (1000g oil weight) and it gave a lovely soft yellow colour without being gritty/grainy or cutting the lather.

Sorry I cannot be of more help. Perhaps someone else with come along soon.....

It's ok, I just figured no one was sure :) I did what any mad scientist would do and just DID IT, used it, guesstimated how much and hoped for the best :D

I added a bit more than you hmmm, 1 tsp PPO - it seems to be ok :)

I just bought several colored clays but I haven't gotten into them yet.

1 tsp per lb is where I'm going to start. Post a pic, if you can, I'd love to see it ")

I'll get a pic up this evening sometime...I hope, maybe ;)

Just so you know, in case you're going to compare colours or lather or whatever, topcat used (1 tbsp) 3 tsp in a 2-lb batch (1 1/2 tsp ppo), which is more rather than less than you used, jbarad.

I would love to see your pics, guys - I've never used clays, but am contemplating getting some... I too was wondering how much to use, so thanks for the info!

Here is my yellow clay coloured soap. This oil base usually cures to a light cream tone, so the clay definitely added something!

Thanks for pointing that out, I completely misread her post. I thought it said 1 teaspoon !

I love it Rhonda! The aussie beige clay is kaolin and the yellow clay I used is also kaolin with the same properties, just a different colour. I love using my yellow soap and I am sure you will love yours too! It is such a subtle shade - very cool 8)

I think I will use a bit less yellow next time I make it and aim for a more subtle colour too!

Tanya :)
