I want to bump the thread to get the challenge back on everyone's radar. I made two soaps for the challenge and this is the one I am not submitting. This is S'mores soap. For those of you who might not know, S'mores are a campfire/bonfire treat made with a layer of chocolate (we've always used Hershey's chocolate bars) and a campfire toasted marshmallow sandwiched between graham cracker squares. So simple and so good. This treat got its name because 'they taste so good you want s'more'.

The first time I remember having a s'more was on a summer night when I was about 6 years old. We had driven to the home of a high school friend of my mother's who was having a reunion of sorts with their high school friends. It was a fun day with lots of kids for my sister and I to play with. As the day faded to dusk, a bonfire was started. Then came the S'mores! Everyone has their own way of toasting a marshmallow over a campfire. I would turn mine and keep it out of the fire until it was perfectly toasted on the outside and all gooey on the inside - almost ready to fall off the stick. My sister would get impatient and end up putting hers right to the flames and lighting it on fire. But I digress.

I don't think there has been a single summer since then when I haven't had at least one S'more. When you live somewhere that gets very cold and snowy for a good part of the year, summers are magic. Summer nights especially, with the hot days cooling down to warm nights, sitting around bonfires with family and friends, laughing children running barefoot through the grass, a ghost story or two, maybe a song and perhaps the most magical thing of all - fireflies twinkling in the dark. S'mores are entwined in all my summers. And I might just have to round up a neighbor or two for a bonfire tonight.

This soap is scented with Cracklin' Birch (NG) on the bottom, the swirl in the middle is Toasted Marshmallow (Elements Bath & Body) for the white and gold, and Chocolate Delight (also EBB) for the dark brown. The gold jojoba beads on the top are meant to represent the fireflies. I also put a dusting of gold glitter on the top, which doesn't really show in the picture. Thanks for reading! 8.2019 S'mores.jpg

@dibbles it's SO pretty! Now I can't wait to see how beautiful your entry will be! I'll think I'll head to the pantry & fire up the gas grill. For some reason my mouth is watering for gooey marshmallows & Hershey bars..... Dang it! No graham crackers in sight.....:(

Thank you Krista. I think this soap is actually prettier than the other one I made, but I like the memory that goes with the other one better.
In a pinch - any Saltines or Triscuits LOL

Saltines or Triscuits....hmm... Wheat Thins! My DH is constantly snacking on them. That'll be an interesting flavor combo:nodding:

Now I'm even more intrigued by your entry, dibbles. Because it's you, the soap will definitely be beautiful. Now I can't wait to read the story behind it!

Although I did not expect to be able to participate this month, I am looking forward to seeing what everyone has come up with. I miss making soap, too! My plans to prepare for the Texas move (temporary, but still significant planning involved) has taken up all my time since I returned home. Daily making foods to put in the freezer for Hubby to later thaw & re-heat is rather time consuming. And I'll be running out of freezer space at some point.

I want to vicariously enjoy your entries!

I will miss seeing what you would have come up with. Good luck with your move, and I hope you can make soap once you are settled.

Really nice story! And now I know why smores are called that! Thanks for sharing.
When a bar scented with different fragrances per layer, do they just blend in your nose or can you pick each one?

Thank you! When the bar is used the fragrances all blend together. If I smell the bottom layer on the dry bar, it is definitely distinct from the top layer.

Umm, has anyone seen @newbie lately? The entry tread was supposed to be opened on the 21st and it looks like the last activity on the account was on the 19th... I hope everything is OK.

I'm afraid I won't have time for an entry this time. I knew August was going to be busy but I didn't anticipate just how busy it would be. And now, it's time to stock up some of my better sellers for upcoming markets.

Hopefully Newbie just got side tracked by something.

That’s a great reason to not have time to make a challenge soap!
