Hi,

I am a soap maker in Northern Va, specifically Woodbridge. Wondering if anyone would like to get together to form a NOVA Soapers Group? The group would meet maybe once or twice a month to share soap recipes, knowledge, techniques, & perhaps we could place bulk orders of product to get discounts. Would have to see how many interested then figure out where to meet. If anyone is interested or has some ideas for this group please respond here so I can get an idea of how many would like to do this. Thanks!

Ctay, are you in Basye or Woodbridge? I'm in Manassas.

Ikindred, we need to meet up soon. Real soon. :)

Oh geez. I lived in Maryland until three years ago. I've got friends in NOVA and would have loved to join the group. I'm so jealous!

Unless anyone near Philly/Wilmington/the Main Line is interested in the same thing?

Ikindred, glad to find someone close by to me!

Deda, I have a home in Woodbridge and a home in Basye.

Wouldn't mind meeting up with you two. Will wait a few more days to see if anyone else wants to join us.

Where do you all make soap? I'm making mine at home, but I can see I'm going to have to start looking for a space somewhere else. My guest room is already full of racks of curing soap!

Ikindred,

Have you ever sent pictures of your soap to Saponifier magazine? I remember seeing someone from Woodbridge in there. Was that you? I do love that magazine!

Hi,

I'm new to this forum, and also soap making. I just posted an ad about wanting to meet soap makers in the area. I would love to join in on any classes.

I live in Falls Church... but I'm going to be moving in three months :( If you guys do something before August count me in!! :)

I would like to set something up for Northern VA Soapmakers the end of this month for anyone interested in meeting. What works best for the majority....day or evening? I am gone most weekends to our other house. Would during the week (Mon Tues or Wed) work for anyone?

Shall we meet someplace public (I'm thinking Panera or Borders, something cafe-ish) the first time? Then thinking perhaps we could rotate homes each meeting (I will volunteer to be the first if no one minds coming to Woodbridge). Thought it would be a fun first meeting to each bring a soap to exchange and we could pick names out of a hat or something.

I thought the first meeting could be informal, just a meet and greet, get to know everyone, how and why they got into soapmaking etc...

I can do Mondays and Thursdays... I can do Wednesdays but only 7:30-9:00 :/ My hubs and I only have one car and I'd have to drop him off at band practice and then pick him back up.

Evenings would work best for me. At the moment Mon and Thurs I could only meet after 7pm, the other days I could meet a bit sooner.

From the few replies I have gotten, it looks like Wed evening would be the best time to set up a meet and greet.

Folks replying were from Woodbridge, Dumfries, Nokeville, Manassas and Falls Church.

For the first meeting we could try Panera at 9508 Liberia in Manassas. We'll make it May 4th 7-9:30.

Tawane, if this works out and you want to ride w me, let's meet on 234 somewhere (I'm thinking the shopping center where Target is located).

Does anyone want to do a soap exchange as an ice breaker (everyone brings a bar of their soap and we'll draw numbers and pick)?

I'm hoping we might get a few more people interested. I was thinking about doing a group on meetup.com, but they charge a fee and I'm not interested in paying for something that may or may not fly.

The agenda will basically be an introduction and some sharing of information (i.e share your favorite websites, blogs, soapmaking supply sources etc).

There is a soapmaking group on meetup.com. It was started by a soap company in Occoquan called Lotions and Potions. But I think they just do melt and pour classes.

Please RSVP here by Mon May 2nd.

Thanks

ALL SOAPMAKERS WELCOME!

I'm going to have to google it and see how far away you guys are. I live in Charles Town. I'd like to come but I don't think any of my soap will be ready to exchange just yet, so maybe the next one. But maybe if I get a few more batches under my belt, I'll feel ready to meet the soap queens!

Been close to Charles Town in Shepherdstown...it's a little bit of an hour away. Would really love you to come,b ut can understand if you can't. Gas is so expensive. I have to use med grade and it's up over $4 now. away!
