Hi @nedastar, I don't believe that patchouli EO tends to cause as many problems for people as some of the "hotter" EOs like clove, cinnamon, basil, thyme, etc. There is data to suggest that a fair number of people have negative reactions to those EOs, including skin flushing, itching, burning, headaches, etc.
Personally, I can use and enjoy patchouli in small amounts in blends, but it does give me headaches if it is used at higher percentages on its own. However, everyone's reactions to scents are so different that it's hard to say anything definitive about any skin-safe EOs and how people might or might not react to them.
