My hubby is making me a wooden log mould tomorrow and I have been practising lining a shoe box with baking paper. My conclusion...I HATE LINING MOULDS!!! There has got to be a easier way to do this. I live here in Australia and I see some people talking about flexible silicone thingys but I don't think we have those here in Australia.

Anyone have any advice? Anyone from OZ know what these flexible silicone thingys are? What does everyone else prefer?

you can use silicone caulking and coat your mold. It still doesn't quite do the trick for me so I do that and then once it's dry and ready to use I use just a strip of freezer paper lengthwise so that I have something to grab to help ease the soap out of the mold. Hope that helps

Oh I do I do! lol Actually have a tutorial but it's in my documents on my other computer and I can't get to it right now. I'll post it for you asap. Don't give up:)

I use craft foam sheets & cut them to fit snuggly together in my log mold. There's no leaking & you just peel them off the sides of the soap. It helps if you have a mold that has hinged sides or a mold that comes apart.

or if your mold is larger, cut up foam backed placemats to fit snugly along the sides of your mold. scotch tape them in places so it doesn't move around.

Mactac the cupboard shelf liner works like a charm.Leave the backing on , leave extra for a handle to pull the soap log out.Wipe it off and reuse it again and again. I too despise freezer paper.

i dont know what you call it there, but we call in contact paper, used to be for lining drawers, it is sorta sticky on one side, smooth on other, you would find it in kitchen section of store, i have been using the same two pieces for a couple months now, just wash off when done! I would never use anything else, i like it so much.

i use the silicone loaf pans. i love them. you just pull the silicone pan gently at the sides, invert and the loaf drops out. i have 3 of them. these are the best...

there are cheaper ones but those tend to not hold their shape when full w/ soap. these keep their form nicely because of the rows of little legs they have

Wow those moulds are great! I have some silicone loaf moulds I've been using but they get a funny v shape to them and I want something more rectangle like. I would LOVE to order some of those moulds Deda!!

With the contact paper do you leave the backing on it and just fold it to size? Thats the hard part about baking paper. It's impossible to fold because it wants to slip and slide everywhere! :)

Oh thank you Galavanting Gifts! I have chatted with her in the past but didn't know that she did custom made silicone moulds. I am definitely putting in an order asap! Thank you ....this was just what I was looking for!! :)

You're more than welcome Vonna, Kaseen does such a beautiful job with her stamps I bet her liners are just as great.
I too will be looking at purchasing some liners or custom molds from her. :D

I just wanted to say..I used silicone baking sheets, they are $5 at Go Lo. 1 sheet made 1 small mould lining (size of the IKEA drawers) though I used 1 and a bit for my larger ones. I did it 2 ways, 1st was to cut the small sides seperate, the rest as a sheet, ie long sides and bottom in 1. Was good, but you have to really press in to the corners or the soap gets a rounded bottom. The second way is all the bits seperate, long sides, small sides and bottom. More uniform soap, a bit more trouble. I use clothes pegs or castor oil to stick the liner to the mould pre fill. As soon as the soap starts to fill it out, I take the pegs off.
