Okay so here's the deal, I have all of the ingredients I need to make soap, and I have all of the equipment I need... except for my digital scale.

I ordered it online and it isn't expected to get here for several weeks!

So here's my question. Is a scale absolutely crucial to making soap? The more I read different posts in this forum, the more excited I get for making soap and I just don't think I'll be able to handle waiting! lol

If there is an alternative, please do let me know. If not, feel free to tell me to be patient hehe.

Thanks for the reply! I was pretty sure that it was completely necessary but thought I'd double check just in case hehe.

I don't know anybody who owns a digital scale, unfortunately. I have a bathroom scale, but that wouldn't be nearly accurate enough.

I ordered my scale from brambleberry and it's my first order from them so I have no idea how long it will take. I do know that it has already shipped, and when I emailed them to ask how long it would take they said that they don't know for sure, but that it could take several weeks!!!

But... I wanna make soap NOW!

If it was shipped UPS you can get the tracking # and see when it says it is due to be delivered. I think USPS also has that.

If you ordered from Brambleberry I am shocked that it will take WEEKS for you to get your scale. That's not like them. Don't be suprised if you get it this week.

There are recipes online that are evenly measured for you if you don't have scales.

Thank you for the replies everyone! I have no doubt that Brambleberry is usually speedy, but they said there was no tracking information because it's an international order (I live in Canada).

Customs has a habit of holding packages for obscene amounts of time. When I order yarn, they sometimes hold i at the border for a week or more. Hopefully that doesn't happen with the scale, and I get it right away.

I would love to hear an ETA from someone who lives in Canada who has ordered from them before, so I can get a better idea of when it might get here.

I'm just so antsy to make me some soap!

I have never tried them so I have no idea how well they work, but you can read Kathy Millers comments about it.

Thank you! I don't know if I'm going to try it or not, but it's good to know that it's there in case I start to go crazy. I want my first experience making soap to be a good one, so I'll probably want to make sure I can get my first batch as accurate as possible.

Oh cool! That gives me some hope! What shipping method did you use though? I used 1st Class International Mail

Big time, yes. Too much can run amuck without a scale. it's not worth risking all your ingredients.

Thanks! I think I'm going to tough it out and be patient waiting for my scale to get here. :)
