Hi,
I'm a soaping newbie. I've been soaping for a little over 3 months. I've been doing basic recipes - with no FO or EO. I want to try and make a Honey Almond soap. Does sweet almond oil make the soap smell like almond or will I need to add an almond fragrance oil? I couldn't find a recipe.
Thanks!

Almond Oil will not add any scent to your soap ro you would need a FO. Sounds like it would be a ncie soap!

I just made some myself this weekend! I added Honey Almond FO and it smells absolutely great! I only wish I had some Almond slivers to sprinkle in and really wish you could drizzle honey on top...

ok, I just bought oatmeal milk and honey fron wsp, it smells like ALMOND milk and honey!

i made my first milk, honey and oatmeal soap over the weekend (don't quite know why i've resisted making that) and thought initially it was a total DISASTER!

woke up the next morning thinking there had to be rubber tires burning in the kitchen. egads!!!! no, it was my soap!!! egads!@!!!@#$% i'd used camden grey almond scent, which smelled great in the pour.

it's now tuesday night, and the scent has calmed down some, but it's still not the almond i imagined, still a bit of a definitely-not-almond, rubber-tirery kind of scent . hoping it's going to mellow out some more and smell like actual almond:( sooooo... anyone have suggestions for an almond FO they like? ;)

i do have to say it's the only unexpected (read not good? ;) experience i've had with camden grey, so totally willing to believe it was my other ingredients...

I did a honey almond oatmeal with camden grey's almond FO a couple of months ago and really like how it turned out. You are probably just getting that weird fresh soap smell. I bet it will be ok. I am slowly working my way through every almond FO I can find. Just bought some from DayStar called Honey Almond, it smells lovely oob. Want to try Wellington next.
Does anyone have an almond FO to recommend that really stands out?

Sweet almond oil is a great emollient but has little almond scent.

The almond scent, almost identical to Maraschino cherry, is from the essential oil, bitter almond. So wonderful, but too bad that the Feds restrict the sale of bitter almond oil; you're not allowed to buy it without excessive paperwork. If you can get some bitter almond oil, you will find it extra-powerful. Whatever amount of other essential oils that you add to your soap recipe, divide that by 3 for bitter almond.

It does, doesn't it! I like it for almond fragrance about as much as anything. Almond can be overpowering to me. (For OMH, I use Aroma Haven. Teeny tiny hint of cinnamon in that one.)

Aroma Haven's OMH is yummy as well as BBs. It was one of the first fos I used when I started soaping and is still a family and friend favorite. :D
