I have a small amount, 1/2 C, cooked down wine that I was thinking of adding to traced soap, as a swirl. Will this take? I have never added anything but scent and herbs to traced soap. How will adding a liquid to traced soap affect it? Any liquid, not just wine. I researched the boards and found one post that makes me think it will turn out awesome

Well....you'll need to mix that liquid in with the soap...if you just swirl the liquid you're going to have liquid pockets in your soap.

Hello, good question...i'm interested too..
  • It's recommended to boil the wine first to eliminate the alcohol ? or it's ok without boiling?
  • if i have 1 kg of oil and i want to add the red wine in 500 g (half), how many grams do i have to add without damaging my traced soap
thank you

That is what I figured but wanted to hear it from the forum, so thank you. I will do what a couple others have said and that is to mix their lye, let it cool, then add the cooked down wine. I will do two batches and swirl them together and hope for something other than doo doo brown

Yes boil to at least get the alcohol out. I boiled my down from one bottle to 1/3 cup of thick dark liquid. Use whatever amount of wine you want as your water portion. I have one wine batch under my belt, so that is all the info I can supply, hope it is somewhat helpful!

adding wine liquid to soap

serfmunke, did your wine smell funny or had you added a scent? If so which one goes well? I made one unsuccessful swirl but am happy with the lather and soap in general...but as my daughter says the wine part still smells like liver!! Mine is a reddish doo doo brown! yummm!!! only been 2 wks. or so Thanks

Why did you boil so much of the liquid away? I have made wine soap where the wine 80% of the water and just simmered it for 30mins. It made a wonderful soap, I didn't swirl with it but I added Dark Red Mica and when cured it looked the same colour as wine. I scented with a blend of Orange and Lavender eo. It took a couple of weeks before the "wine" smell went away but after that it was fine :)

I boiled it down to get a real intense color. Perhaps next time I will try to just cook the alcohol off and then see what color I get. I try to keep my soaps as simple as possible with what I have at the house so to get the color I want to try to manipulate stuff

I made another batch of wine soap. I did mix the wine with a cooled down lye solution and that seemed to work real well. The soap smells better than the first batch. I did not scent the wine portion, 15 oz, but did scent the other 27 oz with blood orange, cedarwood, and patchouli. It seems to have a faint scent of funky wine but if that fades with time, the scent should be wonderful! There are pics in the photo gallery. The color is a little doo doo ish but it is swirled in with an orange-ish color due to the EOs. I dig it and am pumped to give the log to my friend.

Yeah, just a few simple tweaks and everything worked out pretty good. I think I failed to mention I added the wine after it being in the freezer, it was kinda like a wine slushie, it looked pretty tasty. Hmmmm, a new idea, wine slushies for summer time, YUM!

Congrats on your sucess! The wine smell should fade and that scent combo sounds lovely :)

sangria slushie?!?

OHHH! Great name, can I steal that?!?! I was racking my brain trying to think of something clever. All I can up with was Wine Soap in Italian, Sapone di vino rosso.
