I am thinking if it is possible to add a drop or several of lugol’s iodine to a lye made soap.
The iodine solution is 10%.
To mix well I guess I would have to dilute into the water first,
But iodine is quite alkaline and I’m not sure if this will upset saponification?
Has anyone here experience/knowledge of this?
I use the lugol’s iodine liquid hiking a drop in a litre helps to purify stream water.
So want to give it a go for my skin.
Thank you.

Iodine - As a general rule, the lower the number, the harder the bar and the less the conditioning qualities and vice versa. A recipe with iodine values higher than 70 will tend to produce a somewhat soft bar of soap. Definition: number of grams of iodine that will react with the double bonds in 100 grams of fats or oils.

So you CAN add iodine to soap. But you might not get the results that you are looking for.
There is iodine in soap already...

I'm not entirely certain about this, but I suspect the iodine may react with the fats and soap.

Strong iodine solution is not recommended for use on skin, by the way. It is a skin sensitizer -- in other words, people can become allergic to it. It's a fairly common problem, which is why iodine solutions aren't used as much as they once were for disinfecting the skin.

It may be wise to use it only to disinfect your drinking water and leave it at that.
