? About titanium dioxide

If I add titanium dioxide with a FO that discolors to cocoa brown will it just lighten that effect or will it be white?

It will lighten the effect. If it goes to a dark brown you'll have a medium.
Guess you could add more TD but then you risk the rivers.
I've done stabilizer and TD which is a nice combo to battle the brown but I personally don't like the stabilizer and stopped using it.

If I have a FO that I know will turn brown, I separate out a portion of the soap batter and lighten it with TD to use for swirling. Then as the soap cures, you can see the swirl develop as the TD portion will be lighter.

Perhaps I can just separate a small amount before I add the FO and add TD but no FO to that portion~ I'm only using it for swirling so I don't see a problem in not adding FO to that portion.

From what I have read, there is a chance that the FO will bleed into the other portion. I have only made one soap with an FO that had vanilla in it and I separated the batch (about 2/3) and did white swirls in dark brown batter with a white top. So far (It has been 5 weeks, I think) the white part on top has stayed super white and the white swirls also look the same, however, there are spots where they look darker than others, but from what I can tell, it is because the swirl isn't as thick, so some of the brown is showing through. However, you never know what one FO is going to do when comparing it to another. I think it's worth a shot!

ETA: I didn't use any TD in mine. I just used a recipe that results in really white soap. I don't know how much difference that makes.
