Maybe it is me....but when I use shrinking bags for my soap it does seal the soap, but it also melt my soap!!!???
Oh, to get the bags shrink I use a (hair) blow dryer, as recommended by my supplier......
Is it just my impatience that I want the bag shrink too fast, or has anyone the same experience and knows how to solve it.

Cheers, Jacqueline

I melt my soap about 1/2 the time too. I think shrink bags leave a funny odor on the soap (like burnt plastic) so I try not to use them.

Well..... and I didn't even smell the soap afterwards.

If that is the case also, they have to go....
I thought that you would seal/preserve the scents of the soap with the shrinking bags, but probably it will leave an extra plastic smell to it.

Maybe they are suitable for other projects (can't think of anything yet....).

Now I wander how the shrinking wraps (the ones that seal of lipbalms/bottles) work when you have to warm them.....the lipbalms will melt???

Shrink wrapping does melt my balms, so I wrap then let them cool UPRIGHT.

I never even thought about products melting with the shrink bags. I was going to some too. I am now thinking twice about it!

I use a heat gun to shrink wrap my soaps, balms, candles (you name it, I wrap it! LOL) and the only time they melt is if I'm not paying attention and hold the gun in one place for too long. I literally only need about 10-12 seconds per peice (of soap or small items, a little longer for bigger projects) to shrink the wrap and make it look good. I have to constantly move the gun in wide sweeps though.

And it did take a learning curve and patience and practice. The first few I did were totally ruined.

Could it be that when using a blow dryer you need to keep it on the product longer due to the lower temperatures which in turn causes the soap to melt? I've used heat guns and they are so hot you would need no time to get the plastic to shrink.....

Just a thought....

I believe this is what's going on...I have a heat gun also, and don't have to worry about melting my soap because it is in my hand when I'm shrink wrapping it and my hand will get burnt if I leave the gun still for more than like a 1/2 second. I have melted holes through the wrap, however.....lots of them...

Maybe I need a heat gun....and lots of practice ;-)
I didn't hear anyone else complaining about a bad smell/scent coming from the soap when you open the shrinkbag?

Anyway thank's for the replies!

I use a heat gun as well, I have had no melting or burnt plastic smell.

Mine do have a funky smell right after wrapping them, but that is from the wrap itself, not the heat - for me, it goes away after a day or 2 and when you unwrap it, there is no leftover scent from the wrap on the product that I can detect, and I've never had anyone mention anything about a scent other than what the product is scented with. :)

Melting the product had not occurred to me, either. Eek!!

You are more likely to melt M&P soap than CP, that could be the difference.

It happened with the melt and poor soap, but all my soaps are a little soft and have a little oily feel because of of the vegetalble oils that I used and they haven't totally dried I guess. So that in mind I'm afraid that they will melt, but I can just try one of them, to check.

I let you know what happenend after the weekend!

shrink wrap

I shrink wrap between 50 and 75 MP bars a week....and I use a hair dryer. The trick is to keep it moving....make several passes over the entire bar to get the wrap to shrink.

If you hold it one place too long, yep, it's gonna' melt.

I use shrink wrap bags as well.
