Hi soapers,
I'm wanting to make soap, as I got my shipment of micas Saturday from nurture soap (wow, so beautiful). At any rate I'm 2 grams short for recipe and can't find it anywhere locally. Ugh! Any suggestions? Will the 2 g make a big differance? How can I compensate?

Just change Soapcalc to input the actual amounts instead of percentages and then recalculate it. I'm assuming you're short on an oil and not lye.

Then just resize/recalculate the recipe until you have enough lye to cover the oils. Or, just increase the superfat.

If you're 2 grams short of lye then I personally wouldn't worry about it. I tend to play it safe and cut my recipes short by about 2 grams anyway. Ex. if my recipe calls for 139 grams, I would measure out 137.

Yay! I'm gonna try that then! Off to soap! Wish me luck. As always, thanks for all the help. I so appreciate it!

Fortunately this just means your soap will have a higher superfat. The problem here is that you're going to just leave out ingredients without making sure it's ok. If your total recipe is 1500 grams... then 2 grams of lye isn't going to make much difference at all. If your total recipe is only 150 grams, then it's going to make a huge difference.
In soapmaking you can't just willy nilly leave things out. Doing so can mean the difference in soap that is safe and soap that might burn you. I really urge you to run your recipe through a lye calc before making it with the missing 2 grams. Is is probably safe this time? More than likely, but what you do to start with creates habits, and this is a bad habit to start.
I'm not trying to sound harsh, but this is important.

I understand Horsecreek. Makes sense. I'm very new, and habits need to be good ones. I was so excited to try some of my new micas. I went a bit nuts other than my soap thickening too fast (as usual) it came out pretty well....other than the colors weren't what I wanted, and no time to add more, but,...I rolled with it and tried to give myself a break. I really need to post some pics. Having some issues that I think a picture would help diagnose by all you soap doctors ironically, one of the best soaps I made, was negated by forum. Haven't tried it yet as its curing, but for the most part, it behaves pretty well. I wonder if the weather here is affecting my soaping? I have to figure this out. As always, you all are amazing help!
