50/50 split water

Speaking only for myself, I split my liquid amount when making milk soap because I passionately hate mixing my lye with anything but water. All the times when I've dissolved it directly into my milk, it was problematic for me....if it wasn't the milk getting scorched, then it was the fat in the milk saponifying before I could add it to my oils, etc...

Things just proceed much better for me when I dissolve the lye in an equal amount of water and add the milk to my oils. My milk soaps come out beautiful with a nice creamy, off-white coloring this way instead of tan.

That's not to say that one cannot get a nice off-white milk soap doing it via the direct way with frozen milk, but it takes way more time and patience than I'm willing to invest.

I am totally with IL on this. If I want more milk I add in powdered milk to the liquid milk I pour into my oils

Yeah, of the 3, Stab Mixer is clearly the best. Immersion Blender is probably the most accurate, though.

Squeaky, here's what I do:

I use canned milk. I do the 50/50 split method, and I increase my water to 40% in SoapCalc. Once my lye has reached room temp and my oils have reached 100F (about 38C), I add my milk to my oils and I have my stick blender in the pot, blending away, as I pour in my lye water.

I also hate the frozen milk method. I tried it twice - both times I ended up with un-dissolved lye pieces.

Powdered goats milk is more expensive for me to buy than fresh, but I think that it would be worth it so that I can essentially use 100% even though I have water/lye solution.

Sounds like you keep the lye solution at 50% strength and then make up the difference w/ the milk, rather that cut the liquid straight in half, then?
