This is pure castille soap, my attempt to do "camo" coloring for a hunter's soap. Thanks for all the advice and articles on the message board.

Thank you!

What a nice compliment. Thank you...that really makes a difference in my whole week!

This is olive oil, water and lye. The olive oil is the yellowish part -- not really the color I expected, but maybe the brand is tinted. (?) I divided the batch and mixed activated charcoal in one part. That isn't the black I expected, but, like I said, I'm still REALLY new to this so I didn't know how much to put in. This example is 1 tsp for one pound. It looked darker in the mixing cup.

This is a two-spoon swirl, and it was done in the container that came with my scale.

Brand of olive oil

I just checked, and the olive oil was the "Great Value" brand from Wal-Mart. It looks greenish in the bottle compared to a more expensive brand I have in a 4-oz size for cooking. Side-by-side, the color difference is obvious.

GREAT work on the swirl, especially for your 4th batch!

I like Costco's olive oil (regular, not extra virgin), I've never found any obvious tinting with it.

Good tip on the oil

So far, I've just been "grabbing" supplies while doing other shopping.

The "Great Value" brand I picked up was the extra virgin. I don't know very much about the differences in the oils, so thank you for the tip.

oh, made a mistake

You know....I apologize for the error, but I did attempt an in-the-mold swirl on my 3rd batch. I glopped some overcooked mix into a mold, and then put another color on top and tried to mix it in. It was a failure as far as swirls go, but it's kind of cute as a two-tone bar. This is a first spoon swirl attempt, but I did try another kind that didn't work.

Oh I love that! Now I'm feeling the itch to soap this week. Perfect color for guys, too (or us girls). I know my husband hates when I hand him a pink and white bar of soap. :lol:

Swirling

@saltydog

This could be a newbie fluke for me, LOL.

But, I think it made a big difference to use the candy thermometers and have the water/lye and oils at exactly the same temp (100F) when I mixed them. The mix behaved beautifully.

I also watched a few you tube videos of the spoon swirl before trying it.
