Another newby question if I may. What would you recommend as a recipe for a kitchen hand soap that would remove kitchen smells such as garlic, onion, fish, etc. Thanks for the feedback.

With soapcalc you can identify the traits that you want in your soap, and modify your recipe to meet those traits. Seems quite nice to work with.

You could always give a batch a try and report back with results. I would think it would be worth the risk. I have not experience with them however, just my pragmatic thought process.

My recipe was. 5 lbs lard 10.729 Oz Lye 30.5 oz water. Can you explain what "gel" means and what to look for. Is this something that you want to happen in CP soap? What causes it.

Firstly, new soaper here. I made a couple of batches of Soap, using Soapcalc as my guide. Weighed meticulously, and molding in a 3" PVC tube. I watch a couple of videos on you tube and they indicated that I would wait for 48 hours to UN-mold. I couldn't, :), so I UN-molded one tube at 24...

I just went back and looked at it and it is 5% super fat, that is the same as the discount correct?

I used the discount figured in soapcalc which was 5% I believe. Should I discount more? When I pull up the lye calc, it automatically has 5% in the discount field.
