Itchy skin from handmade soap...Need your help

Do you itch as soon as you get out of the shower? Or is it later on? I know that I have issues in the winter with using hot water, and then shaving, and as the hair starts to grow back I get bad itching. I don't shave as often in the winter now since I'm in pants most of the time anyways...

    salt bars hold scent better

I think it's a great idea! And I agree that it would be best if everyone used the same type of salt/same recipe, etc. That way the only variable is the scent. I've seen some swaps use the crystal light containers because it holds a 1 oz batch pretty well, and they come out nice small sized bars.

I think I'm going to start with a whipped body butter so I don't need to worry about preservatives and such.

    Dry Itchy Skin

I definitely see a difference in soap that has been cured for at least 4 weeks. I've tried some a few days after it's made and it dries my skin up a lot, but then after a good cure I find it not drying at all.

    Peppermint Castille Soap

I wanted to make a castille soap since I've never tried it, and decided to do it peppermint. It was supposed to be white and red swirled and I wanted to do some in the pot swirling. I added the red and went to pour it in the mold, and realized that I had forgotten to add the EO! So I had to...

    Soap too soft and spongey

It could just need more time to cure. I've had some that were soft (if I pressed it I could leave a thumb print) when I unmolded and cut it, but then if you let it sit it hardens up great. Without that extra castor it might be lye heavy. I'm not sure how to calculate it to figure that out...

    Soap too soft and spongey

I usually add essential oils as soon as I get a light trace because I like to pour it when it's still pretty light so I can do swirls and such. Essential oils do not count as part of the superfat. They are not actually an oil at all. I usually let it sit in the mold for 24 hours before I...

    Finishing Your Bars

Thanks for the reply! These need to be used in a wood mold, right, as a liner? I'm looking for something that I can just on my own, I've seen several youtube videos of people using them and they looked cool. So what do you do with the potato peeler? Just run it along the edges?

    In search of fragrance/essential oils

Many health food stores carry some essential oils, so you could get an idea of what they smell like if you have one local. As for FO, I think there is a forum in here especially for FO/EO and you might try reading what other people have said about certain ones. Also, remember that sometimes...

    Finishing Your Bars

How do you guys finish your bars once they are cut? I've heard something about pantyhose, or bevelers, or potato peelers, but I'm unsure of exactly what is done with these. Also, where do you find the best place to get a silicone loaf mold? I'm thinking something small, like a 2 lb mold. I...

    Essential Oils, Glycerine & Superfatting

An essential oil is not an actual oil, so it does not count towards superfatting, no matter when it's added.

    Pringles Can?

OK, so from what I've read, the can is actually lined with a plastic lining, so unless I somehow ripped a hole in the lining it should be ok. It did get really hot and start to crack on the top so I thought it was overheating, so I hurried and put it in the fridge and that calmed it down a ton...

    Pringles Can?

No, it was the cardboard ones because they would just rip them apart to get the soap out. I really hope it isn't ruined, it smells sooooo good! I'll have to see if I can find any information on what hydrogen gas can do to soap.
