My very first volcano-what did I do wrong?

Hm. Yes, I did take a water discount, which I've done only my last few batches. Not sure how it affects florals, but it makes sense to me that it would make the soap more reactive if I have the teensiest thing that's touchy. I've never had much luck with beeswax, either. I wish now that I hadn't...

My very first volcano-what did I do wrong?

It's Brambleberry pigment mixed into beeswax. FO's are BB, too.

My very first volcano-what did I do wrong?

I'm assuming the Baby Rose caused the seize, Ive used White Tea and Ginger several times without incident. Perhaps combination of scents? More details I forgot-used a tiny bit of Titanium dioxide to mute the red color, and I dissolved a bit of silk fiber into the lye solution before combining...

    What got you started soaping?

My mother is a habitual crafter (which definitely has rubbed off on me), and about 10-12 years ago I found a soapmaking book in her quilting room. I was thoroughly fascinated and read the book over and over. For years, I read everything I could get my hands on, but it seemed like a very...

    my memorial

Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate it a lot. I guess the mix of oils sounds pretty awful, but right after pour, it smells pretty darn amazing. I used varying amounts of each scent, and didnt measure anything...not sure that I could ever repliclate it, but that's okay.

    my memorial

Today is the second anniversary of my dad's death. I came up with a blend that smells very close to his complex smell, including cedar, sandalwood, star anise, black tea, and vanilla oak. I'm sure I'll never get it right ever, but it was first try and I feel good about it. My whole house smells...

    Black Tea FO

Does it still smell really strong of tobacco at the end of cure? I soaped a Nag Champa once (can't remember the supplier) that riced. I rebatched it, let it sit for a month or so, decided I didn't like it, and threw it out. Recently I opened the cabinet that I had stashed it in (because I...

    Fixatives

I would really like to try orris root or benzoin, experiment with things like that, but I keep reading that they are sensitizers...you don't think it's a problem in soap? So far my family and friends are enjoying my experiments..I would be mortified beyond belief if my soap gave someone a rash...

    Fixatives

I did one with clay last weekend, just a teaspoon or so for a 2lb batch. I've never tried cornstarch, definitely will try that. I have looked for vetiver online and have been shocked by how expensive it is. Does anyone know a good supplier? I have yet to try patchouli in soap; I need to...

    Fixatives

I've been researching fixatives bit many of them seem to be sensitizers. Do you use a fixative? What is your experience? Do you think they are necessary?

    Black Tea FO

I bought this FO from BB several months ago. The next day I came home from work on my lunch break and my house REEKED of tobacco. It's one of my only soap fails that I chucked straight in the garbage without attempting to rebatch. I still have a few ozs of the FO left, and I was thinking about...

    Fragrance oils dissolve plastic?

Yes, that exact thing happened to me....poured 10x orange oil and some anise FO into a red plastic cup, and it ate straight through the bottom of the cup by the time I mixed my base oils and lye to trace! It was a good wake up call that lye is not the only substance in the process that can be...
