    Smelly Soap

Some people say that rancid soaps smell like old crayons. Is there any signs of dos or other indicators that the soap have might gone off? Were all soaps being stored the same way?

    Sodium lactate in store

Thanks soo much for this. I checked and this is not too far from my workplace so I will check it out tomorrow! Candora is about 2 hours away from where I am. I actually did a mini road trip 2 weeks ago and made sure to include that as a stop! I wish I realised that I needed it then.

    Sodium lactate in store

Unfortunately I'm all the way across the country in Ontario. New Directions Aromatocs is close to me but they don't seem to sell. I guess I may just have to order and wait. Thanks!

    Sodium lactate in store

Hi All, Was wondering if anyone knows where you could find sodium lactate in a store? Want to use it to make something this week and didn't want to wait on shipping. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Help! How do I make a maximum sweaty soap? For an art project

Does it have to be actually sweating or can you use a dropper and a melt and pour soap to create this effect on a soap?

What soapy thing have you done today?

Just finished up a late night soapy session. Made a clover and aloe scented sunflower slab soap. Any recommendations for a good small slab mold a deep individual rectangle molds? I used a small silicone cake pan. Also wanted to test a new scent coriander and salted olive. So far I'm liking the...

    Cure time

I cannot give you a definite answer about cure times but I can say that in my experience if soap takes too long to be cut it may be extremely hard to cut or crumble when cut. If you cut the soap into small sample size pieces then the guest may be able to use as needed.

Had something weird happen with my wax melts, take a look?

I've seen wax melts with some glitter placed into the clamshell. I think those ones look quite nice.

What soapy thing have you done today?

@Cinnamon Square I don't think rebatching with lye still on the soap is safe as you can never be fully sure that the lye crystals will dissolve properly in the rebatch process.

Thanks! I moved from a beachy island to Canada and I miss the beach so much! It's my favorite 'fancy' soap to make.

    August 2024 SMF UN-Challenge: Seasons!

After not making soap in months and inspired by this challenge I made some Summer themed soaps over the weekend. I tested a new high lard recipe and scented the soap in a Winter Solice scent (an ode to a second season). For the bottom layer I used a bronze mica and black African soap crumbs as...

Where did you learn to soap?

A family friend did an agricultural class and they made soaps and he gave me one and it made me curious so I signed up for a one day workshop (which was actually terrible). After that I did a deep dive on YouTube/Google starting with hot process bur now I mainly cold process when I get around to...

    Recipe dupe

It is in fact the product mentioned above and is a hard bar that is in a jar which I use by rubbing a face pad to get lather. Looking at the ingredients list and seeing oils and lye in the ingredients I thought it might be a soap. A melt and pour soap base that they added the additional...

    Recipe dupe

Good day, I had a question about a recipe dupe. I have used the below soap for clearing my skin and I noticed that coconut oil is the first ingredient on the recipe list which is very strange as the soap is promoted as a face soap. I also wondered if this would be a melt and pour soap with...
