    Fast thick trace

It seems strange that even a 100% olive oil recipe would be quick to trace - that should take awhile! I've had some very quick to trace recipes but dialing down the hard oils/butters to 45% or below does the trick for me. But I use full water. What's your lye concentration? More water should...

what the heck am I doing wrong?

Kevin Dunn described similar experiments in his "Scientific Soapmaking" book. He recommended putting the mixture in a closable, lye proof container (he used polypropylene plastic) and shaking it. This was for NaOH soap - maybe it work for KOH also? Good luck! I feel like I should try this...

    Super fast shipping needed

Majestic Mountain Sage often ships the same day. This is great for me because live less than 100 miles away so I almost always get my orders the next day! It would take longer to get to Virginia, but you could select overnight shipping. They carry a couple of pinks but I haven't tried either...

The "way too much work" Christmas soap

The embeds are adorable! It's quite a good green and red. I've been searching for a christmas red, but I think my friends and family are going to have to make due with a christmas purpley-burdundy instead!

    Avocado Soap

My hubby's favorite soap is 30% avocado oil. I haven't tried a to mash in a fresh one though - that sounds tempting! The oil alone doesn't really add color.

    75% coconut chocolate soap!

It would definitely hard to resist taking a bite out of that!

    a soaping journey (pic heavy)

Alright - a soaping partner! I want to try HP - a crock pot is on my (long) wish list.

    My first attempt at colors.

Oh, I'm jealous, that looks so much nicer than my first swirled soap! To get the swirls down further you can 1) pour the colors in from higher up, or 2) pour them in layers. Like, a layer of white, some swirls of colors, another layer of white, more swirls of color etc. But your soap looks...

    a soaping journey (pic heavy)

I'm not exactly where I want to be in swirling technique but I intend to practice a lot more. The black and white soap is actually a gardening soap - the white is pumice and titanium dioxide. The TD clumped though; if the photo was bigger you'd see the white bits. Lesson learned there about...

That's so true - I have 40 pages of notes from all these experiments (including the lotions and balms I tried along the way as well).

    Soap Drying racks?

Yes, I also just invested in a set of cookie cooling racks and it's really freeing up space. I can actually use my desk again for other things!

    a soaping journey (pic heavy)

continued: Cosmetically speaking, this is my favorite soap so far - it's a center pour swirl with blue oxide, green mica, and copper mica. It's still curing so I haven't tried it yet; hopefully it will be a nice soap to use! Then I bought a silicon loaf mold and a cheese cutter, and...

    a soaping journey (pic heavy)

Here's a little summary of what I learned over the past year: These were my first soaps. I read everything and tinkered around with soapcalc for months before I made these. In the beginning I got kind of obsessed with getting an INS of exactly of 160 - which I now know is not necessary, but...

    A longtime lurker

I'm coming up on my one year anniversary of soap making, and I lurked here for awhile before that learning all the tips and tricks. All my questions were answered (several times over) in the archives, so I couldn't find a good reason to post...but now it would be nice to share my trials and...
