Where did the pretty color go??

Did you pop it into the freezer to prevent gel? My colors will do that, and then reappear. I made a brown and green swirl for a pear soap 2 days ago. The green turned into yellow after I mixed it and remained yellow till I unmolded it about 24 hours later after taking it out of the...

Plastic molds a pain in the butt!

Sweating is normal when the soap comes out of the freezer. Just leave it alone for a few hours and it will all be absorbed back into the soap. If it's just teeny droplets, you can blot them, but it's best to just let it dry for 6 hours or so.

Granite Soap...Yeah, let's call it that!

JackiK...wish I had your common sense! Melting them together then refrigerating is such a "duh!" idea....and yet I didn't think of it! Oh well, guess you can't have everything! lol

Question for experienced HP and Goat milk soap makers!

I've never done the OP, however I always make full milk CP and HP. I've noticed in HP that mine doesn't always go through all the stages listed in some tutorials. So long as the end product works, it doesn't matter how it got there. Sounds like you did everything right, so good job!

    palm oil substitute

Yeah, lard or tallow work well. I hated to admit it, but I do love the availability and price....and of course the soap it makes!

High PH in a goof'd batch

I'm not sure, but I don't think the problem was the cocoa. I don't measure mine, rather I just sprinkle a little at a time till it looks good. I could be totally wrong, but I've never had any issues doing that. What was your recipe?

Granite Soap...Yeah, let's call it that!

Thanks, guys, I feel good about it! It is also hard as rock already (made the initial whipped batch Weds eve, rebatched yesterday eve). I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like in a few days....that purple is known to look tan at first, and purple later. I used purple, blue, and orange...

    Shortening Cure Time

I've used my HP within a few days, and it was fine. Was as hard as a rock the next day. The same recipe in CP was still a bit soft 5 weeks later. I'm quite fond of HP, although with milk soaps, you tend to have a "burnt milk" smell for a few days. Tried every heating method and it still happens...

Granite Soap...Yeah, let's call it that!

I might attempt it again with different colors....not sure how, though, besides doing exactly what I did before which was a pain in the neck!

Granite Soap...Yeah, let's call it that!

First whipped soap experience turned out to be a teeny bit of a disaster. Turns out my cold coconut oil didn't whip fully and there were tiny chunks of it left in the soap. Knew I had to try to rebatch it. I placed the cut soap in a bowl and set the oven on low to melt it just enough to whip...

    Vanillin can be a villian

My best soap came from a similar problem....colors gone wild! Yours turned out beautiful! You totally meant to do that, right?

    First Whipped Soap...Problem?

Nevermind #2. It's actually the colorant...the tutorial did say that colors are more pastel than vibrant. Guess that's true! Trying to rebatch (somehow!) to dissolve that darn coconut!

    Spices as Colorants...Scent?

Yes, please share that technique! Love it!

    First Whipped Soap...Problem?

I made a whipped soap yesterday and today I noticed 2 issues. 1. There are tiny bits of undissolved coconut oil. 2. There are streaks of my FO that I guess I didn't mix well enough. It's less than 24 hours old with no zap. Can I still use it?

    Spices as Colorants...Scent?

I've seen that you can use turmeric and paprika to color soap. I'm wondering if any of the scent from the spice remains in the soap? I know that cocoa powder's scent does not, and I'm assuming that these will not either, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. What spices/natural colorants have...

    Hard Bar Recipe

Really?? Hairy men use soap faster? I suppose because the hair causes friction which rubs away the soap? I'm telling my husband to get out the Bic before he uses any soap! They don't call him "wolfman" for nothing.

    Pomace or extra virgin OO?

EVOO is not the best for soap making. The cheaper kind is actually better. But, EVOO is all I can find in a large jug at the store, so I do use that. Still works!

    What the heck?!

Next time I'd give it a shot and see what the color really is. Maybe it just looks that color in the bottle but colors the soap purple. Then you can take a pic of the color if it is wrong, and have a strong point when you tell the company that the color was mislabeled.

Wondering about using baby food carrots?

That is a very good idea! Probably much cheaper than carrot juice, too!

    Rebatching a Stinky Fragrance

I made a "man" soap the other day with cedarwood and bitter orange EOs. Kinda just wanted to use them up since I didn't care much for each scent. The end product definitely stinks, though. Can I rebatch and add an oil that would take away or mask the scent? If so, any suggestions?
