carrot peeler...do tell more! I have not heard of this before.

I normally get ash on my soaps as well. I use the CPRT process so my oils and lye mixture are cooled to room temperature prior to mixing. When I used the regular CP methods, I still had ash as well as an occasional soap volcano! A little alcohol on a q-tip will take care of it...at least...

Thanks for the ideas and suggestions, I am going to stop by the hardware store (Lowes) tomorrow evening and find some PVC pipe. It is such a shame when you are excited about going to the hardware store! Wish me luck :lol:

Hello!! I am getting more and more adventurous as I keep reading posts on the forum...this is scary! I am thinking of making soap in a PVC pipe and was wondering what do you put at the ends to keep the soap from coming out? I think this would be great for travel soap and since I am preparing...

Okay, I admit I have cheated a few times because I am such an impatient person! Nothing happened to me but my bar melted so quickly that I didn't really get to enjoy it all. I normally wait 6 weeks for a full cure and that is a long time when you are checking and smelling it every day.

When you batch your soap, you put it in the freezer immediately? If so, I have never tried that. I normally leave my mold covered on the shelf in the basement and then prior to removing it from the mold, I put it in the freezer for about 30 minutes (helps to get it out of the mold).

I actually think that is what happened. I normally put the mold in the freezer for about 30 minutes but I got distracted cooking dinner and left it in there for an hour......I knew I should have let my family fend for themselves tonight! Oh well, it doesn't matter, the cracked bar will get...

Okay, I am super excited! For this being my first time trying to swirl, I don't think it came out too bad. The bar is scented with Tea Tree and Orange essential oil and it smells so good, can't wait to actually use it. http://img835.imageshack.us/i/teatreeunmold004.jpg/...

I am getting ready to unmold them now...I have the mold in the freezer! I will post pics in about 1 hour. Keeping my fingers, toes and eyes crossed that it comes out well.

I am in love with the color of your swirls!! I am just getting started learning to make swirls but they aren't as pretty as this :(

Thanks Krissy! The color is Chrome Green from Bramble Berry (Oxide). I love the way it looks for my first time but I am going to keep practicing. I will post pics when I unmold.
