    Strawberry Soap Failure

I am wanting to make some soap for a festival coming up so I made a test batch and the funny thing was that, although the recipe was tried and true, this batch had no lather. I asked around and it was mentioned that strawberries have certain acids that will inhibit lather, but no recommendation...

    Basic recipes

drop your coconut oil to under 20%. 30% coconut oil is drying to many people. another good one that i was given is olive oil 50%, lard or palm 25%, coconut 15% and castor 10%. It is simple, creamy, sudsy and mild. :)

    Measursing Tips / Unsolicited Advice

two things. first, I like to use the print out from soap calc for all my additives and I notate everything I do on there, including date, FO/EO added, any additives, or anything else that was unusual with that recipe ie: fast or slow trace. I then keep all this in a binder so that I can know...

Help with % for Foaming Sugar Scrub Recipe

there are no usage rates for the SCS and the CAPB (not sure if those are the proper abbreviations or not) So, I'd try 20% each of those then 3% of the oil and glycerin, and 1% of everything else. Fill up the rest, to 100%, with sugar. Report back to us how it works! :)

    Green Shea Butter?!!!

you really need to get a scale that measures in grams. It is more accurate. Then you can just multiply the ounces 1.7 (for example) times 28.3 and that gives the number in grams. Many scales have a button that will switch from ounces to grams easily. and you also want one that has a tare...

    Favorite lip balm flavors

Its been proven over and over that *for some people* castor oil is very drying to lips. A lot of people use it because it feels great on the lips (its got a thickening quality), and its cheap. But for some, its just awful. Try it out. You'll know in 24 hours or less if castor is drying for...

Using Raw Egg in Soap making

I use the yolk in my facial soap. I love that it gives it such a creamy texture. IMO, its a really nice addition!

    lip scrub project

I looked at that link and she says it will only last two weeks if refrigerated. I wonder why she says that. There's nothing in there that will spoil. brown sugar honey coconut oil that's it.

    Need Help ..Failed Honey recipie

if you are sure that you measured everything correctly, you can rebatch all of it. mix everything up real well before you pour in to the mold. It should be fine!

    Layering Colors

layering soap is only limited by your imagination. Try different things, and maybe you'll invent a new technique to be named after you!

    Designing soap for certain needs

I generally agree with you assessments. Except with facial soaps. A lot of research suggests that acne is caused by over cleaning the skin. So, my acne bar comes in about a 14 or 15 cleansing, I think. Maybe even lower. And I have a formula for mature facial bar that comes in much lower...

    Post Saponification Problem

you need to let it cure longer. Have you zap tested it? I think its due to there being lye in your soaps still. But a zap test will tell you that.

    CPOP Issues - Help Please

I had the exact same issue. used coconut milk and everything. I rebatched it last night and it looks perfect today!

    Question on CPOP

I see! That does make sense... this was a coconut fragrance and I added some coconut cream to it. So maybe that made the difference. This did completely separate. I rebatched it last night and it seems ok. funny thing was that it was super smooth when I rebatched... so smooth, you almost...

    Question on CPOP

I've been doing a lot of CPOP lately and have really been happy with the results. However. Last night the soap separated. Normally, in HP, I'd just stick blend it back together. But this soap has some cool swirls and designs that I don't want to lose. So, will the oil reabsorb, or will I...

I need help on a recipe for lotion

my lotion recipe calls for stearic at 5% as well as ewax at 5%. That will thicken it and i would think would help hold it together also. Mine doesn't call for any beeswax though...

    What are your bestsellers?

yes. they are a solid bar that you just rub all over. The very first thing I ever made was a lotion bar and it was awful. It just sat on my skin and was super greasy. I think it was coconut oil, shea butter, cocoa butter and beeswax.

Ia there such a thing as a sugar bar?

Last night I had to rebatch some soap. It was very fluid and melted really well in the Crock pot. Why couldn't you just do a rebatch, then add some oils and the sugar. I would also add some sodium lactate. I don't see a reason why that wouldn't work. Do you?

    ITP swirling soaps question

thank you. Both of your suggestions are helpful. I never knew if I should stay in one spot, or move my pitcher while I was pouring. And yes, I think I am pouring at thin trace. That makes perfect sense!
