    Unscented lard smell

    Obsidian the smell should cure out very nicely, but keep in mind that the lard won't smell too badly if you can keep it from getting very hot to begin with.

    Valuable lessons from 1st batch

    Those are all some pretty good lessons to share...Probably one of the biggest that sticks out in my mind is to ALWAYS start off small, and never take on a big batch...till you have a good recipe down pat. ;-)

    Lard in Soap

    I wouldn't be put off by lard based on the one inident, since the use of lard can make for some really creamy nice soaps, and like said above so many other factors can contribute to dos besides the oils that went into the batch.
