Stupid mistakes and bone headed thinking.

I remembered another one, I think my biggest oops - making the wedding soaps, I printed up my recipe from soapcalc. It wasn't until after the soap was half set up did I look at the recipe and notice I had selected fractionated CO instead of regular. Since I used CO, it ended up lye heavy...

I got mine from Cibaria, but the equivalent with Soaper's Choice is the one labeled "Palm Oil, Organic, Sustainable".

    1st pine tar soap

I had some reasoning behind not using OO in my pine tar soap but I can't remember what it was now. The soap turned out fantastic. Mostly palm, 20% pine tar, and small amounts of castor, CO, and cocoa butter. I don't think it's possible to have white or pale lather with 20% pine tar.

Stupid mistakes and bone headed thinking.

Thought about it more and I think my worst is repeatedly forgetting oatmeal. 2 loaves swirls totally ruined because I remembered it like the moment it was poured and I saw the bag of oat flour on the counter. Grr. A couple batches, I said screw it, not ruining my swirl, but others were gifts for...

what are your fave ratios for OO, CO, PO and castor

PO + CO = about 65% (best to experiment with what you like, I like 20-30% CO but many people find 30% drying) OO = about 30% Castor = about 5% Really, the first 3 you can just mess around with and any amount will work. I wouldn't use over 10% castor (people have had success with it, I...

    crap walmart co went up

Mine is around $6 too. It's the one oil I've run out of so I've been buying it there to use up the rest of my oils...definitely not cheap.

Stupid mistakes and bone headed thinking.

I think I would have a lot of lame moments if not for this forum. I am not creative or overall crafty by nature, but soap making fit that little niche I didn't know I wanted to fill of cool-craft-science and just that little touch of "danger" that if I screw up.... bad joojoo. Some day I'll...

    Holiday gift box help

Our super famous Deda did a gift box a while ago - with 4 soaps laying flat with dividers and some lip balm thrown in. http://www.lovinsoap.com/2011/02/valent ... a-notions/ I'm trying to figure out how to dress up the soaps I'm giving for christmas and thought of that. But I don't know...

    Its been awhile....

Be careful! The lye will eat through the wood and ruin the mold. I use freezer paper, the method similarly to this http://www.soap-making-resource.com/lin ... molds.html

    My "riced" soap and OMH

Thank you :) The brown is cocoa powder (the lighter color is uncolored). I've used it many times and love the shade it gives. A little goes a long way!

Random "stuff" for running a soap making business.

I think it could still work Lindy - either replace the metal with wood or something, or line it.
