Dead Sea Salt at trace? 2 part Q...

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had successfully attempted to add dead sea salt at trace with their cold process soap? Is it true you must use all coconut oil when doing a salt bar..even if you not trying to do the 'spa' bar? Thanks

if you run a search in this forum for dead sea salts you'll find many posts with useful information.

i've never had success with dead sea salts in soap -- at trace or anywhere else in the process. nasty, gooey, sweaty, and lathers like a lump of cement. i wouldn't even add it as a topping, it's no better...

you don't HAVE to use any particular oil ever, but only coconut oil will give you lather in the presence of much salt.

My Salt Bar Experience and Loving it!

I'm on my 4th batch of Salt Bars right now.... Waiting for my oil and lye to cool.... All 2lbs
First batch, white only, no scent...15 oz salt for 2lb batch...
2nd batch, again 2lb's lite blue color Michael Kor's type Scent, 18oz salt... 3rd batch, pink bars, 20oz salt, jasmine scent... Now, 4th batch, 26oz salt to match 26oz oils...no color added... Scent of Flowering Herbs from Oregon Trails...
I'll post my recipe tomorrow with photo's.... Love these salt bars.... ;-)

Is there a diffference between Sea Salt and Dead Sea Salt? I'm kinda excited about these bars and then read the negative comment..

SALT BARS

Photo's of my salt bars... First photo, loaf of 100% salt in recipe, then sliced.
Then, all 4 try's at salt bars... White first with 15 oz salt no scent, blue with 18 oz salt michael kor's scent, pink with 20 oz salt jasmine scent and the ivory 26 oz salt flowering herbs scent....
19.5 oz coconut
2.6 oz lard,2.6 oz sunflower,1.3 oz castor oil,4 oz lye,8.5 oz water

I actually use Dead Sea quite often in my salt bars with 75% coconut oil, 20 avocado, 5 castor oil. They are one of my best sellers and have not experience much problem with the dead sea salt. I grind my salt in a food processor so I have different grinds. They are actually my best seller!

I learned firsthand that dead sea salt causes problems. I do not recommend it - a waste of oils, fo, and lye. Waste of money.

That's what I was wondering, too. I've read about there being some scammers out there trying to cash in on the Dead Sea craze by passing off regular table salt as Dead Sea Salt.

Anybody has some tips on recognizing the real deal ? From what I read on wikipedia, I am guessing that 1 tsp dissolved in 1 glass of water would be much less salty and never dissolve completely, compared to regular salt.

On the other hand, there are many commercial dead sea soaps.

Are they all scams ?

It sure does makes me wonder. I mean, the Dead Sea is just a small land-locked sea. I could be completely wrong, but it just seems to me that it would be drained by now if all the Dea Sea products on the market were really made out of salt from the Dead Sea.
