    Wilton Bath Bomb Colors?

You know, as I read the Coastal Scents website some more, I'm thinking that what they sell is a far more concentrated version - a paste. I'm not sure. I'll have to do some more research to see what other people use to color their bath balms. Thanks again!

    Wilton Bath Bomb Colors?

Thanks, Soapbuddy. These seem to be some sort of gel, though, as opposed to food coloring (not sure if that's what you were thinking of). I did some more searching and found one thread on this forum. People seemed to say that there was no bleed or tub staining when used in bath bombs. That's...

I keep giving soaps to my friends BUT

I've actually had someone (my best, dearest friend) admit that she's nervous about using the soap - she complimented the scent and the look and said she loves to display it in the bathroom, but has been afraid to try it. I can't imagine why that would be. Anyone have any insight on how soap...

    Long lasting soap?

Thanks, Kelley. I noticed this as well. I have started to make my soaps all one standard size - much smaller and squarer (sort of) - they're 2 1/2 inches tall, by 3 1/2 inches wide by 1 inch thick. I figured that would help with the breakage, but thanks for confirming that! I was hoping that...

    Giant Soap

OMG - yes, please do start with smaller batches (or have an experienced soaper do this for you). Like Carebear said, that's a lot of oils gone to waste if it gets messed up. Good luck - sounds wacky! If you had that thing in your shower, you'd probably just have to rub yourself all over it...

    Long lasting soap?

Good point, Carebear - about the commercial soaps. I know I can't totally replicate that, but I don't want people to say, "yeah, her soap is nice, but it gets soft after you've used it a while." I guess what I would like is for my soaps to never get "mushy" on the outside and to never get...

    Saturday is Soap Day!

Dennis, Thanks for the good read - your soap looks pretty - and it looks like it smells really nice (I have no idea how to explain that)!

    Long lasting soap?

So, I know that longer cure times help to make a harder, longer lasting bar. I know that sodium lactate can help with making a hard bar, but I've heard that it doesn't really affect the "lasting" aspect of the soap. I've made an 80% salt bar that was pretty long lasting. I've tried many, many...

    Gelling in the oven?

I recently did my first couple of batches using the forced oven gel method. I was really pleased. No ash and no problems whatsoever. It's definitely a good method, as far as I can tell from so little experience with it. I had both a green WSP silicone mold and a large HDPE mold from SoapHutch. I...

    Can I ask a huge favour :0)

I liked you and the market - good luck! You totally deserve the spot!

    Shea enthusiasts?

I've used shea butter in almost all of my soaps, at about 5-10% (I even made one with a higher shea content) and I've never seen any graininess. And in fact, I start with shea that's already grainy (it came that way from the supplier), but it melts beautifully with the other oils and makes a...

    to gel or not?

Here are some good threads on gel. Hope they help you... http://www.soapmakingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=206899&sid=4e77ee1b23bde7f119634e5759cb7ec3 http://www.soapmakingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5232&highlight=gel++gel...

Beer soap recipe...what do you think?

I do boil down the beer (a 12 ounce can ends up being 60-100 grams). I add the concentrated boiled down beer at trace. However, others have mentioned simply letting the beer go flat for a week or so in the fridge and using it instead of water. I've never tried it that way. My beer soap is a big...

    Arrowroot Powder or Corstarch?

Sorry to bump this up, but I want to place an order and I'm wondering if I should bother with arrowroot powder (I've got corn starch at home, of course). Or maybe there's something even better I should get???

    Whipped Body/Shea Butter

I am so excited to see this recipe because while I like my whipped shea butter that I made recently, it really wasn't as "whipped" as I was hoping for and I thought to myself, why not just whip it without melting it first? I'm glad to see that that's an option. As for graininess, I can't...

    Arrowroot Powder or Corstarch?

What's the difference between arrowroot powder and cornstarch - I mean, in terms of people's preference? Why use one over the other? I have various uses I'm thinking of - like lotion bars and whipped butter (and others I probably haven't thought of yet). Thanks for your help!

    Itchy after using homemade soap

Just a comment on the "floaters". They look like a little "skin" forming on top of the lye solution. I've been getting them lately and I also think they're just small amounts of soap forming from the small amount of oily or soapy residue that might have remained on the lye spoon or in the lye...
