    Fragrance advice

I think I would be skeptical of a supplier selling "soap perfume" unless they could provide me with some sort of official certification that it is skin-safe, and at what rate. Or if it is stable when used in a lye product. It might be worth a call to them to find out....but I wouldn't take their...

How much FO do you use?

I've not really had any issues with scent not sticking, either. The couple of times that I thought the scent disappeared, it popped right back out when the soap got wet.

How much FO do you use?

I only use FO's in soap so I can't address EO's. I always set my fragrance rate in soapcalc at 50g per kilo, which is 5%....unless IFRA recommendations are less. But I rarely use FO's that IFRA says should be used at less than 5% for a category 9 product. I always write right on the bottle the...

anybody add glycerin to their CP soap?

Not exactly sure why this question is posted here, but "total paste weight" refers to making liquid soap. The paste weight is undiluted soap paste.

    Help~

Good advice from all above, and I think you are on the right track now. I, personally (and I think most of us do) use a stick blender (aka an immersion blender) as it quickly brings your batter to trace. Depending on the FO used, and what swirl I'm doing, it may only take several quick bursts to...

    Help~

I ran this through soapcalc, and while it will make a nice bar of soap, I feel like a 7.5lb batch might be quite large for an untested recipe. That amount of coconut oil is a little high and would dry out my skin in a heartbeat. I'd also lower the castor oil to 5%. I'm also a little confused by...

    My first Drop Swirl

Thanks, all. All of a sudden my ugly sea foam green looks pretty good in relation to the soap I just made. Maybe I'll swallow my pride and post a pic of the cut tomorrow.

    My first Drop Swirl

After reading your first note, I got a "drop swirl bug" and decided to make another go at it. I may have just made the worlds ugliest soap. I got some new FO's this morning and, of course they were calling my name. I used one from Save on Scents called Scottish Coast. No reviews to be...

    My first Drop Swirl

Thank you! I had to teach myself to not be afraid of a thicker trace. It was a pudding-like consistency when I poured. I have always felt like fast acceleration was at hand when I've reached that consistency in the past. I really just willy-nilly'd it. Now that I have a better feel for it, I'm...
