What soapy thing have you done today?

I just finished rendering all of the fat that I've had in the freezer from our bull that we had to send to Camp Kenmore last spring. Oh, my goodness, I have 10 1/2 pounds of the most beautiful white tallow! I saved out one quart to use for cooking, but the rest will be made into soap. i did it...

It's been in the oven for almost 2 hours!

I don't know why that just made me giggle! I might try using that!

January SMF Challenge -Hidden Heart Swirl

Cut my first try this morning.....definitely not entry-worthy, but I feel like I'm on the right track. I just need to tweak my technique a bit, I think. I didn't like the edges of my hearts. I'm going to try again, and if I like the next one better, I'll post pics of the non-entry.

    What's in your canning/jarring pantry?

I have chicken, bone broth from our chickens and cows, apple and peach pie filling, jellies and jams, mandarin oranges, beans, salsa, ketchup, and tomato sauce. I love all forms of food preservation. I use basic Ball and Kerr jars. I have a bunch of Weck jars but have never canned in them. I...

January SMF Challenge -Hidden Heart Swirl

No way! I think it's very healthy that you enjoy your time alone and don't have a need for anyone else to entertain you. It is, in no way, a reflection of how much you love your husband. Finding your zen in making soap makes you a better wife!

    First Timer :D

I'm not sure what to tell you. Has it traced yet? Is it in a mold? It may take a loooooong time to unmold with that many soft oils. If you do have it in a mold, give it some time to saponify, if it will, and then zap test it to make sure it's not lye heavy. It might be a few months before it...

    First Timer :D

First of all, welcome to the forum and I'm glad you're so excited about making soap! Second of all, how in the world did you measure without a scale? Soapmaking is based on weight measurements as opposed to volume measurements. I feel like we can't help you with this recipe without knowing...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made 2 batches of soap dough for the February challenge. One following Sorcery Soap to a tee, and the other my own recipe just to see the difference because I have such a hard time with the amount of coconut oil and castor oil in Bee's recipe. I also got my first attempt at the January...

January SMF Challenge -Hidden Heart Swirl

First attempt is in the mold. I had the adrenaline shakes going on, and my only question is if my hearts will show when I cut tomorrow. I'm wondering if I got the depth right. My batter behaved as well I could have ever hoped, so...fingers crossed!

    Prep for February Challenge

Thank you so much, dibbles! That explains a lot. I did the soap rocks challenge, too, and did the same freezer paper glob. I guess I just didn't know that I was soap dough-ing! This gives me so much more to go on, and makes me less fearful. I think I'll do the same with making white dough......I...

    Prep for February Challenge

Having never done this before, and after watching several videos, I'm not finding anything on how to color this soap dough. Do you color it after you split it and before you put it into the initial mold? Do you color it after the initial molding when it's the consistency you're looking for? If...

Welcome, Vicki.....I use tallow from our own livestock, too. So satisfying to use as much as you can when you butcher. I'm actually rendering today!

    Complements

Compliments from relative strangers are so validating as they have nothing to lose or gain. I'm going to take this as a lesson to be more vocal with positives toward people I don't even know. This is proof that it can really make someone's day.....with very little effort on our part. I hope...

When soap goes bad....life isn't the same

How frustrating for you! I hope the joy of soaping comes back. And I hope the gremlins leave your home for good.
