    A Question of Tools

Bumping this thread with a request. In exchange for the sad but delicious-smelling scraps of soap I give to my contractor friends, they offered to make me something. That something should be a planer. I have never seen one so I can't really explain what I need, how many inches of wood attached...

Think I just set a record for rapid trace

Owl soap! It's beautiful! I want to get it for everyone in my guild. (we are owls; long story). It was def the clove. My favorite soap growing up was a cool red glycerin that smelled like spiced rose. I replicated it in MP no problem but I want to make it for Valentine's Day in CP. That's...

When you get a $50 gift certificate for Christmas for a certain Washington State supplier I will not name and despite your trepidation/horror about working with them again, you SQUEE inside because ... fifty bucks of stuff! Honestly, I don't care how long it takes or whether they forget my free...

    Christmas 2014

Just starting to get in the spirit! Guinness gingerbread is cooling; almost all the lights are hung; just a few cards and gifts to take care of.... WHAT????? How does this happen every year? I need another week, Santa, please!

    Soapy dreams for 2015???

Organize my soaping area and curing racks. Get my new logo on gorgeous letterpress labels! (already in the works) Attend the guild conference in April. That's all. I have no interest in fancy swirl techniques; I already make all the household, cleaning and cosmetic products I need. I just...

Lol, KristaY! When you flatten and take home a paper coffee cup from Chicago because it has interesting colors you want to replicate in a soap. And my mom, bless her heart, was like, "That's so pretty! Send me one when you make them!"

Long story about perfume and doughnuts

No. I've been making eleventy-billion MP Christmas ornaments and other holiday orders. I'm thinking I should blend it with something. I don't have a lot and don't want to waste it so I'm indecisive about how to use it. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm open.

    the best anise?

Thank you, KristaY! I hate licorice in my mouth but the possibilities of blending anise scent are making me dizzy. I love tenfold orange. That, along with Peppermint, are my go-to blenders, I can't wait to recieve my anise FO and to go wild with it!

    Salt Soap info wanted

Not the greatest picture, but these are my first salt bars. Scent is blackberry sage.

    Merry Christmas

This time of year but all year 'round, a big thank you and hugs to the mods and admins who work so hard to answer our dumb questions and laugh at our jokes, and to the fellow posters for their support and advice and encouragement. I'm sorry if this sounds ridiculous, but I was just thinking...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Oh, my stars, those are lovely! What I did today was make my first salt soap, inspired by Obsidian! Yes, I blame her!

Post you ugly soap pics here - Troubleshooting thread

Thanks, folks! What a great relief! It's not ash. My artsy pictures don't show it too well but the gunk is not on the surface; it's all the way through. It doesn't zap and feels normal, not gritty.

Not really. How's this? Those crystal thingies on the sides? What gives? It is otherwise totally normal soap.

    the best anise?

I'm getting kind of mentally obsessed with anise scent, since I've never smelled it in soap. Today I made my go-to men's soap--black pepper, cedarwood, accelerating clove with activated charcoal and black lustre mica for a smooth deep-gray soap that I will cut into big, sexy, architectural bars...

    Dirt Fragrance Oil

Hi, bbrown! I have worked with Garden Dirt and I love it. I bought the NG version and mix it with BB's Sunny Herb Garden for summer. In cooler months, it's nice with BB's Grass Stain and NG's Fresh Fallen Leaves. My stepsister is a master gardener so I came up with the first combo for her. I...

Is this a case of lye pockets? It's my Dirty Hippie soap. Neroli & Shea Blossom, Amber, and Honey Beeswax. Smells great and feels fine. But what are those crystal flaky things?

Long story about perfume and doughnuts

Kayso, forgive the backstory, but it's important. So, I'm 16, working at my college bookstore, this is the early-mid '80s, and more than one expensive dame smells like a fabulous high-class cinnamon-sugar doughnut. I want to follow them out of the store and lick them, it's so yummy. I finally...

What part of 2nd-day air don't you understand

You're darn tootin', snappy llama! I just ordered gingery minty spice something-something flavor oil and am so excited. Update: I got my order tonight and sent a message of apology to the customers whose soaps will be late. Sigh... 70 3D ornaments to make and I did 40 of them with a 3-cavity...
