    Need help formulating a recipe?

Before formulating a soap, I think it's a good idea to get to know your oils/butters fatty acid profile, and what they bring to the party. Most charts also have basic guidelines of percentage useage, but nothing is totally hard and fast rule wise. That way, you can select your ingredients based...

    Confession. I'm a cutter

Couldn't you use the mold itself as a guide and cut at the rim of your mold? That way your knife can cut along the edge.

Reinbeau, have you tried calling him? I found he is much better if you can catch him " in person".

    Scenting the unscented baby soap

Honey is a no no for children under 2 due to the possibility of it being tainted with botulinum toxin. Topically, as in a soap, there's no issue. That being said, as has been stated before making safe soap for babies really shouldn't contain EO's or fo's and no nut based oils or butters. Until...

    Mantra Swirl Question

So far, layering soap then using a hangar has been the only way I've made that technique successfully. I've been wanting to try the other way again since I now know you have to cut the soap horizontally to show the beauty. My fist try that way half and half. Not the look I wanted.

    Stretching Out - Color

Amy Warden also has a YouTube video on colorants that may be helpful. That being said, I'm not sure what is left of the nurture micas, but I'd be happy to supplement and share some of mine with you. If interested, PM me what colors you are getting, and I'd be happy to send some others for you to...

    my new Soap Hutch mold!

Soaphutch.com website not very user friendly, by maker Rich, is. Will custom design a mold to your specification. Worth the wait, and when you break down the multi function and quality of the mold, is truly reasonable cost wise.

    my new Soap Hutch mold!

How kind you are! To answer your ?'s: it is a slab, which can be converted into 3 logs. You can place a dam to shorten a log. It also can be 9 bars, or depending on your amount desired, can be larger bars or bars of various sizes. I've seen Kenna from modern soapmaking use hers to do a modified...

    my new Soap Hutch mold!

Hi Jbot, sorry to report I still haven't used it. I haven't soaped at all yet :-( I put together the base, was able to get most configurations together, but I still have so many pieces left! Kind of like putting a ceiling fan up and having extra pieces left...they must go somewhere! The...

    Nurture Sale is on1 4/10-4/11

Still having issues with log in :-( These micas are amazing! How do I explain to my DH that there is a big difference between brown mocha and umber. They all look the same to him :-)

    Spin swirls

Cleantheworld.org is a great organization. If you know a bunch of soap makers in your area, it wouldn't be so expensive to pay for S/H. It's a great organization, but I understand how cost wise it could be prohibitive.

    Does this style packaging exist?

Not all need huge orders. Several are willing to do smaller orders. I love the Eco friendly option too. Worth asking for sure. Good luck. As I'm thinking about this,I should ask my dentist, because he has this basket of mini push up lip bombs at the check out desk. I always grab a few.

Have you checked alibaba? There are companies listed that do custom design if they don't have what you're looking for.

    Spin swirls

I'd definately like to see a video of that. I've never heard of a dragonfly twirler. I've only seen a modified tunnel pour, then rotating in quarter turns until you get desired swirl. Am I thinkng of the wrong technique?

    Cleaning up soap

You can also use a steamer if you get ashy tops. I just dip mine quickly in distilled water, then place on a paper towel (ones without a weave pattern). Oh..and wear gloves. Otherwise you'll get fingerprints. Something ironic about giving soap a bath, right? :-)

    Spin swirls

I've never tried a spin swirl, but I'd like to attempt one. This can only be done in a slab mold, right? Good luck to all who entered! I can't bear to really post pics let alone enter a contest! You all are inspiring and so talented! Go SMF!
