Adding lye to rebatch? Another learning experience.

Lye Heavy When you realized you had too much lye, adding water does no good - it is the lye to oil ratio that is a concern. You would have needed to up your oils.

    Do you temper your soap?

Tempering Soap I HP. While my soap is cooking, I put my SF, such as cocoa butter or mango butter, in a small pyrex dish and set that in a small pan of water on LOW on my stove. It is always ready to add at the end of the cook and plays nicer since it is warm.

    Baking Soda Soap

I find it odd that someone washes with plain baking soda or would want it in their soap. Many people cannot even tolerate it in their deordorate because of burning and itching under the arms. That is why so many work on formulating deodorate without baking soda.

    Additional glycerin in bar soap?

Added Glycerin I make HP and add 1/2 glycerin ppo at either trace or end of cook. I have found, that combined with 2 - 3% SL (to my cooled lye water), I have a much more fluid soap batter (for swirling) and a smoother bar.

    Question about nut oils

Nut Oils I had planned to feature nut oils in part of my soap line and I like the results of using them in soap. But, the more I thought about the extreme allergies to nuts that some people have, especially children, I decided it was too much of a liability issues. There is also the issue of...

    Beef Tallow

Tallow Replaces Palm Amy - when a recipe calls for palm, I substitute tallow and then run it through soapcalc. When I started making soap I had the dilemna of using palm and feeling bad about environmental issues or using tallow and vegans not buying my soap (I have yet to find an all...

    Avocodo Oil?

Avocado Oil I get avocado oil from Costco. If you don't have a Costco, you can purchase it on-line from Soaper's Choice. They carry it in 35 pounds and 7 pounds. The 7 pounds is $18.35 + shipping. I find SC shipping more reasonable than anywhere else. I love avocado oil in my salt bars...

Cleaning Up Equipment After Making Soap

Washing Soapy Dishes I soak all my soapying utensils in my soap pot for about ten minutes - nothing else added. I always dump this out in the yard because, even with Dawn, soap is bad for your pipes (my husband used to be a licensed plumber). I use a microfiber cloth to wipe out anything...

Small containers for soap for travel

Travel Soaps I would think that would work. I use them for solid lotion bars. But, sometimes I use my small heart-shaped cavity molds and pour my lotion in them and then pop those hearts in the little round containers. Since the heart molds are silicone, the soaps pop right out. This would...
