    Why Milky way WHY?!

Sounds like the molds could make some nice gardenia chocolates if they are not too big.

    Oil-locking mica?

According to the 'learn to use directions' tab on WSP, you're suppose to mix the mica into some oil for coloring. I guess you could sprinkle them in between soap layers like in the following video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWfL8dPl7IE Interesting stuff. :D Here is another one that I will...

What does your house smell like right now?

My house smells very neutral now, but It did smell like wintergreen for a bit while I was eating a lifesaver.

Which calculation to use? And how exact?

I usually round up the water weight while rounding down the lye. I never really had a problem doing that. EVCO (and I believe refined CO) is the same as 76 degree CO. 76 degree CO would be solid around that temperature and would melt if it is 80 degrees F. 92 degree CO would still be solid...

    Butter Soap Curiosity

After 8 weeks of curing, the butter soaps are out for the observing. The top soap is my freezer bar, the square bar is my room-temperature bar, and the vertical bar was cured in my refrigerator. My room-temperature bar seems to be fully cured whereas my refrigerated bar feels like it...

    lemons

I was wondering if you were going to make a lemon soap before I realized that the lighter lemons didn't look right. Great job! :)

Pomace vs. Grade A vs. Virgin

    Go for it! :D

Pomace vs. Grade A vs. Virgin

Palm kernel and PO are used for different reasons. Palm kernal can be used in place of CO for most recipes whereas PO is used to make a harder soap among other things.

    Throwback Thursday....on Friday

That sounds like a lot of fun, though I can't say I would fair too well in a competition. I'd love to see some pics, though! :)

Why is my Pine Tar soap so light?

I never made a soap with any kind of tar, but I did use benzoin EO for a perfume. Benzoin has a thick consistency that requires it to be warmed up before it can be used. I'm wondering if the pine tar was warmed up before use?

    100% Coconut oil soap 20%sf

I used unrefined and refined CO in soap recipes and I cannot recall a difference on my skin. I'd suggest using 100% EVCO for CP bars or using enough of it to SF a HP bar. This thread made me think that the benefits of EVCO (at least some of them) will survive saponification.

Essential Oil Overload! What should I make?

I like how litsea and the 5x orange smells (reminded me of fruity pebbles). I also like: 1. Lavender and rosemary smells nice and herbal, plus is a great combo for the hair. 2. Lavender and tea tree is good for the face (adding lemon eo just smells good). 3. Frank, myrrh, and maybe...

Essential Oil Overload! What should I make?

 Do not use a set formula like my friend did! That will result in a overall waste of essential oils (a part of me still wants to kill that person). Instead, use a drop by drop method where you start off with a drop of each EO you want to use. Then add more of whatever EO you...

What temperature you cooking hp soap? Is 200F ok?

I like to cook my soaps on a lower end of the spectrum in hopes of preserving as much beneficial properties of the SF agent as possible. I also have an old slow-cooker, which helps me achieve my objective.

    Weird Things You Say

LMBO I almost lost my beverage through my nose with this one. ROTF I think my saying 'I'm killing two stones with one bird' is weirder than me asking everyone to try or critique my soap.

    Anyone tried red palm oil?

Red palm is the same as PO, just without the refinement.

    If Only......

Sadly, olive and palm actually do make a fine soap (I obsessed over it during the summer). Where did Palmolive go wrong?

Lye from Pot Ashes...Anybody Tried it?

My inner corn oil is too cheap to miss (my common sense was temporarily disregarded for this).

Lye from Pot Ashes...Anybody Tried it?

I have never used this method, but I can figure that a pH test will not do much. You may end up making two batches that both read the same pH while one batch contains a bit more lye. That little bit really can make a difference. On top of that, pH testing will only gauge how basic the lye is, it...
