    Pink Salt Recipe?

I adore Pink Himalayan salt in anything -- soap, bath salts, lamps, food, my favorite salt. My go-to for soap recipe is 20% superfat. 80% CO, 15% Apricot, 5% castor, 75% salt. OH, and yes, use the finest ground salt available. I order from San Francisco Salt Co and only the extra-fine grain. I...

    Interesting list of ingredients

OK, so Narnia, I'm really confused by your posts. Again, not to sound disrespectful, but in some of your threads you sound like a newbie. In other threads you sound like someone's who's experienced in soap and lotion making. What gives? Went back through posts since you joined, and wonder if...

    First Tallow Soap

Awesome that's it's a mother-daughter collaboration, and the soap is beautiful!

    CO, Palm + corn oil

ETA: I see many experts have beat me to good answers. I wouldn't use corn oil. Experts please chime in here, but I believe it's more prone to rancidity and DOS than other oils. And in my opinion as for label appeal, it says "cheap ingredients" and "cutting corners". Call me a soap snob, but I...

    Soapcalc's memory

Personally I'm really leery of saving recipes on Soapcalc, have lost all of them multiple times by not remembering to offload them before I cleared the cache or cleaned out cookies. If it's anything I want to save I finish it to my specifications then offload it immediately, e.g. copy into Word...

Soap Supplies Soap - Botanical / Additive Sampler

You can find some great ingredients to experiment with at small local ethnic grocery stores too. And the added benefit is always the fresh unfamiliar produce, the bakery items, the kids and friendly staff who are usually there and whose first language is not English. I always learn something and...

Best oils for an acne fighting soap?

I too would be leery of that much neem, and agree, it would likely smell nasty. As for cottonseed oil I'd worry about rancidity and comedogenic potential. Hemp oil I love, but would watch out for DOS. I make a facial salt bar with activated charcoal, Dead Sea mud, coconut milk and tea tree...

    Crying salt bars

When mine do that I put them in a plastic bin of plain old white rice, layers separated by paper towels until they dry out. It really helps. I'm in central Virginia for now, where it gets damp and humid any time of the year.

    Indian Healing Clay

Likely it's simply bentonite clay and will give you a light greenish-gray depending on how much you use.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Started boxing and packing up my soaping room for the move in six weeks. Really difficult, I have at least a couple of boxes of 'can't pack yet, I might want to use these one last time for lotions, bath spa kits'. Done with soaping for months now, alas. Another couple weeks 'til my first...

    My label ideas

Personally, I wouldn't even consider buying soap without a full ingredient listing. Think reactions, allergies, personal likes and dislikes, vegans, pregnancy concerns, etc. Are your soaps round? What if you packaged in coffee filters, placed similar labels on top and a larger circular label...

    TSA and Suspicious Soap

I was flagged and my carry-on searched one time for the same reason. I didn't have that much soap, maybe a dozen bars, but enough. The TSA agent and I had a good laugh. I offered her some, but it was against the rules for her to accept. I now USPS ship a box to my destination ahead of time. No...

    FO/EO for lotion/body spray questions

Yes, it amazingly is! And nice that even the shy cats will come follow you around in the garden :)

    FO/EO for lotion/body spray questions

Lemon eucalyptus has worked better for me than citronella, though not at all fond of the scent. Have made solid lotion bars and witch hazel sprays. I'm a magnet for skeeters, ticks and especially chiggers, spend a lot of time in the yard and woods, and am pretty much resigned to bites :( One...

Have you ever accidentally put freshly made bath bombs in a warm oven?

Cotton candy, love it! Failed bath bombs I've mashed up, put them in jars as bath fizz and given them to family and friends. I had that kind of day too, sorta. Ever had days when you go out and it seems like everyone wants to hurt you? Enroute to and from errands I had two trucks and one car...

    rant: credit fraud

I will not, cannot ever forgive the IRS scammers who called the day before my mother died. We were beset with things that had to be done at that moment and I just ignored the call. She was very upset, however, and at the time we didn't know about the scams. I will go to my grave regretting that...

    Frustration at other businesses

SpendorSoap, THIS. I try not to get lost in the semantics of what's exactly natural or not, don't want to get into that kind of argument at, say, a market. I explain to people that it's a more natural product than most commercial products, and what happens to lye during saponification, and that...

Has anyone bought from these people?

Thank you for chiming in and introducing yourself. I'm certain that some of us really like the idea that they can buy small amounts of numerous items, unlike many of the bigger sellers. Hoping you can get all your online venues updated pretty quickly, amazing how fast info spreads even when...

Protecting your laptop in your soap room

My rule of thumb is to keep laptop in separate room to prevent impulsive actions resulting in harm to laptop. Laptop and I both hate that.

Has anyone bought from these people?

Run away, run away! I certainly wouldn't buy from them. Expect a good About Us page from reputable companies. FB link to main site doesn't exist. Have made an inquiry on FB. Wouldn't give it another thought, move on to legit.
