    Honey powder

I add honey powder to a small amount of my water to reconstitute it and hold that back to add to the soap later, remember its a water soluble item not an oil soluble. Also be warned that honey powder has the habit of taking moisture from the air and turning into a piece of rock which is almost...

1st attempt, making liquid soap from soap bar doesn't result in gelification

I didn't see anything about using the soap on hair but if I missed something the NO dont use soap on your hair, just dont, its horrible and will be detrimental to your hair.

1st attempt, making liquid soap from soap bar doesn't result in gelification

Its very, very difficult to get solid soap bar to stay as a liquid but one trick you might like to try is adding a solvent like glycerin, you might need a good amount but this does help to dissolve for want of a better expression the hard soap. Try a small amount and see how it works, I think...

Im really confused about fragrance amounts

I just want to re iterate for new people in Europe that 6% is double the legal amount allowable on most safety certificates and would be deemed harmful. IFRA usage doesn't mean you can in Europe its just a guide.

Im really confused about fragrance amounts

I agree with artemis you need to know that both FOs and Eos have sensitisers and a maximum usage rate which you would need to look up. Its not just a case of pouring in a bottle of fragrance as you risk taking the skin off of someone! In Europe we use a % of the oils weight which is usually...

Hot Process Soap - Volcano on Purpose??

Bare in mind HP isn't usable any faster than CP as it still needs to cure for at least 4 weeks, I have used fresh HP and its fine but not like cured HP at all. Incidentally I find crock pots to be too hot and never use them, have not had success with high heat, but stove top or oven where its...

Hot Process Soap - Volcano on Purpose??

Ooooow I dont agree that CP is much easier, mmmm temperamental FOs, seizing, separation, ricing, oil on top, partial gel. HP easy peasy with none of those problems but I guess you love it or hate it! I happen to love it❤

    Liquid soap not thickening

I ususaly do duel lye for LS if there isn't anything like palm or butters to bulk it up a bit especially for an all CO oil LS for laundry etc. I find it works well but with the caveat that overkill will make for "snotty " feel and less is more, and it will tend to cloud up in cold weather but...

    Liquid soap not thickening

For thicker LS without using gums or thickeners try duel lye, adding a % of NaoH will make for thicker LS.

    What stick blender?

I agree what has been said. If you are burning out your blender then its overuse and short bursts with stirring is the way to go. I would suggest nothing less than 200 watts but there are some good amazon prices for 600 watts + if you shop around.

Adding water after cook for fluid HP

Absolutely definitely SL will make your HP batter more fluid, not just a tiny bit but a worthwhile amount, I think the addition of sugar also helps a little as well. holding back water can indeed also help but if you can get your technique right so that you dont evaporate a lot of water...

    Sugar in soap question

I use 5% sugar to oils and I like that amount. I dispel that men can take more coconut oils than ladies, I am a man but have very dry skin which can be itchy so it would be a killer for me. I agree with DeeAnna regarding increasing your stearic and palmate content, large amount of castor will...

    Overcooked HP

I only make HP and never use a crock pot as I found them to be too hot, for many years I did OPHP which worked well once you get the time right, I found maximum one hour in the oven on between 80 to 100c max. Now I tend to do stove top which I rather like. With SL and enough liquid it should not...

How do I calculate IFRA Oil percentage To how much I can use

Not sure which chart you are referring to but IFRA recommends for most soaps and wash off products a maximum amount which I think is 5%, in Europe that does not mean we can use 5% as we have to take into account how much of each allergen is in that oil and calculate it so that the maximum of...

    Adding Sugar first time

5% of of oil weight is the sugar amount I use and that works well for me and easy to calculate, I also use SL in every batch. All added to lye water before lye and completely dissolved. HTH.

    Is this dangerous?

But was your rapeseed oil HO / MO or regular as that would have an impact I would have thought?

    Is this dangerous?

How amazing this topic has popped up right now as I was about to buy the KTC extended life frying oil which I noticed is for sale as a special at the moment, I would imagine this oil to be rather like the HO or MO that is available in the US. Having read the negative comments about it I am not...

    Dual lye - how to?

I use mostly Sodium Glutomate, sometimes Sodium Citrate and no reason to use one or the other only because I have them but Sodium Glutomate is really my go to chelator. I have never used EDTA its not easy to find here in the UK or not for the home crafters anyhow.

    Dual lye - how to?

Ditto what SeaSuds says, never had water turn to gel, I can't see how that could happen unless you have an additive in the water of some kind. I always mixx both lyes in the water together with no problems at all even with sugar and a chelator added.

    Hot Process Fragrance

I have rebatched soap with added FO at high temperature and after moulding and cooling its aroma has not changed. I too always understood that flash point was not burn off, I have never had an FO burn off personally.
