Was this cut too soon? Is this normal?

Are you referring to the side that look whitish and dry? If it is, the whitish part is due to outer layer cooling down faster while the inner part is still gelling. No big deal, you can just cut away the part and use. It will get crumbly over time. The rest of the soap is still usable. (if i am...

    Fruit soap question

Yes. I will think that you need to discount it from the water. So if I use 1 tablespoon of puree, I will take out 1 tablespoon of water as well. Thats my basic guide. As for those harder puree, I will discount slightly less. For avocado, if I use 1 tablespoon of puree, I will only take out...

Newbie - hate that squeaky clean feeling!

I would think that it could be due to the butter and you may wish to lower your coconut oil slightly, maybe to 20%. But I would think 45% for butter could be a bit high. Reason is that sometimes too much of a goodness may cause adverse effect instead. Butter is really good in soap, but it still...

Fresh additives soap - need help

Hi Volya, you may want to consider using the re-batching method to add in your puree and cream. I did that to mine using strawberry and yogurt. As it is rebatching, the strawberry smell did not really get destroy by the lye. You need to discount the water used in the lye if you are adding...

    My milk soap lesson

@chicklet - based on the notes provided by the teacher, the effect of the protein (amino acide) in the milk will be affected by the change of temperature. the most common release is ammonia odour and the colour will slightly change to light green caused by the sulfur amino acid. I read on the...

    My milk soap lesson

@kazmi, there is nothing wrong with the process as this is adding the mixture at trace instead of using milk to dissolve the lye. my only question here is whether the temperature at trace will cause changes to the milk adding in at trace. maybe some other expert here will be able to answer...

    My milk soap lesson

Hi Ruthie, this is the way that the teacher taught too. That is why there is no need to put on a mask to cover the nose this time when I make the soap. The usual process when we make soap is to cover our nose right.. She also taught me a way that in case a slight difference started to be...

    glycerin sweating

Hi Bodhi, do you want to try to put a dehumidifier around your soaps to absorb the extra moisture when it get humid? By doing that, the glycerin in the soaps will not have the chance to absorb the water and moisture in the air.

    Can I Fix It?

I think there should be no issue with re-batching the soaps. With regards to adding lye, it depends on the amount of oil that you are adding. I won't recommend adding more lye unless you have great lye discount previously.
