    are shampoo bars difficult?

Chiming in but only to say that I have nothing to add. @AliOop and @DeeAnna have explained the process beautifully.

My goat milk soap keeps cracking on top

I'm late to this party but I do have some input that no one has mentioned yet. I love making, and using, goat milk soap but I usually only make it in the dead of winter and put it outside as soon as it's in the mold because I get partial gel and overheating every. single. time. That said, I have...

    Shampoo Bar Recipe

If you want a pH balanced soap for hair, you're looking for the impossible. A syndet (synthetic detergent) shampoo is better suited to use for hair.

    Looking for ideas - Vinegar

It's actually pretty good. You can definitely smell and taste the maltiness of the beer. I have another one on the go as well, with a lighter beer. It does make me crave fish & chips, though. I like that idea... and then, perhaps, a couple of packets of salad dressing dry ingredients with...

    Looking for ideas - Vinegar

I've been making my own vinegars from scratch over the past few months, which has been interesting and fun; so far, I've made apple cider vinegar, red wine vinegar, white wine vinegar, raisin vinegar, and beer vinegar (like a malt vinegar). I'm planning on making a couple of gift baskets for...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

It's turning out that my bestselling product this year hasn't been soap - it's been my Overnight Lip Masque (lip balm). I made a batch of 52 and sold all but 6 in two markets. I have two more markets coming up to finish the year so I had to make another batch of 52. That's been the only bath &...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

Body butter is, essentially, a very thick cream. It can be anhydrous (oils and butters melted together, then whipped) or an emulsified thick cream. Either way, it's thicker than a regular cream or lotion. https://wholeelise.com/blog/whipped-body-butter/...

What soapy thing have you done today?

That's about all I've done, too, so yes, it counts.

    So where's the picture??

    My husband thinks I'm crazy....

The bourbon is for label appeal. I live in a wine area and make red and white wine soaps with local red and white wines; they usually sell quickly. The sugars in the alcohol might help with lather but, yeah, it's mainly just for label appeal.

    Zoom in, LOL

Love it 2!! I'm a sucker for subtle swirls.

    Cold pressed oils? Refined butters?

I purchase Shea butter from a Canadian company (Mamaa Trade). I generally use it in my creams and lotions. For soap, I would rather use the refined, cheaper shea butter. Likewise with olive oil... or any oil, really. Why waste (not necessarily the right word) the "good stuff" in a soap where...

What Bath & Body Thing Have You Done Today?

It's primarily for hair but could also be used as an in-shower moisturizer or shave balm.

    Sea Water

I bring it to a boil and let it boil for 3-5 minutes, then let it cool and bottle it up.

The effects of different process (cp, hp, cpop) on long cure (6-12+) OO and other plant based soap

I'm one of the converts to Zany's soap; it has become one of my staples. Instead of using her recipe for the faux seawater, however, I use ocean water from the Pacific Ocean (gathered when we vacation on Vancouver Island).

    Ocean water soaps

Just to add something more to the discussion, when I first started making soap, I used tap water and, occasionally, well water (we still have a well on the property) and the only time I ever experienced dos was when I ignorantly used a metal loaf pan as a mold or when I left my soap on a metal...

    Ocean water soaps

I use ocean water in a couple of my soaps and have done for several years. I've had zero issues. I do boil the water to sterilize it after I get it home. Mine usually comes from Canada's westest coast (off the west coast of Vancouver Island).

Dried orange and rose use as decoration on top of soap turned moldy

That's one reason I rarely use botanicals to decorate my soap.
