    2lilboots soaps again

@2lilboots, those are really pretty colors. You don't say you used any TD. Did you achieve the white in the soap by using a high lard recipe or how did you get it so white? I aspire to get white that white without TD.

How do you cut your soap?

@Servant4Christ, @Snappy and @johnnyusa , that's a triangle alright! Right there in the middle of all those perfectly cut bars!

Guidance sought for using stearic acid in cold process soap

Well, I got very busy at work and we've had beautiful , hot weather, so haven't prioritized making cold process soap. Since I had read that stearic acid can be used to harden M&P, I had a spare 30 minutes and decided to experiment wth stearic acid and M&P. I made 2 bars/ 320 grams of M&P...

Need help finding a natural orange colorant

Ditto on red palm oil. It produces a very pretty, creamy looking orange. The soap on the left is with 32% palm oil and the soap on the right is 15% palm oil. The color of the photo on the left is not accurate. It doesn't do justice to the very pretty orange. The colors on the right (for 15%...

Best way and time to add stearic acid to harden soap

@lsg, yes, that was the quote. And, although stearic acid does increase hardness and longevity in a bar, I think I agree with you (since reading all info in response to my post) that this it's not the best way to go about it. That said, Ima gonna do it anyway!! I've got it, I'm curious 👩‍🔬...

    Slipcover...

Handy phrase. I don't know about covering my couch, but I'm definitely going to practice using that quip next time I mess something up 😄

How much ground oatmeal, how much colloidal oats, what lye concentration?

@A-Polly, that's a really good article. LisaLise did alot of research to be able to address this thorny subject. I feel bad that I prematurely judged some of these soapmakers. As @ewhitake says: Tomato, Tomato (with a British accent.) @ewhitake, agreed!!

Guidance sought for using stearic acid in cold process soap

@BB25 , thanks for your response. I feel like I'm feeling confident enough to move forward with this stearic acid adventure. Why do I wish to do so? To be honest, I'm embarrassed 😳 to say I've practically lost track of my original reasoning !! I've been trying to tweak my main recipe to...

    sunfllower oil

@cmzaha , no lather 🥺 . Yeah, that's kind of a deal breaker. I didn't realize SAO was Sweet Almond oil! I assumed it was Safflower oil. Guess I'll need to look at properties for sweet almond oil now...

Best way and time to add stearic acid to harden soap

@lsg I don't know how to link discussion from one thread in to a different thread. So, here is the January 11, 2021 thread were you said you used stearic acid. Looks like you use it when you have a reason to use it but it's not a mainstay.

Guidance sought for using stearic acid in cold process soap

@BB25 thank you for your response! it is really encouraging to see you soap so low without a problem, and it's encouraging that you think 1% stearic acid should be unproblematic. Can I ask you what your lye concentration is? My recipe will be 66% hard oils including the 1% stearic acid. Do...

    Prayers for Autumn please

I'm so sorry to hear of your granddaughter's accident. I'm hoping her surgeries and recovery go well. If she's eager to get back on her 4-wheeler, that's good news!!!

Help Needed: Soap Tracing Too Fast and Not Hardening

@Soap Maker , Definitely look at your FO's used amongst the other additives you may have used. In my limited experience, some can be huge, huge accelerants.

Guidance sought for using stearic acid in cold process soap

@lsg, thank you. I went back and read the 2016 discussion started by Mikvahnrose who, I think is no longer on this forum. There were some good suggestions there. @Gingerbread2 said she’d been using 5% stearic acid for a few months with no acceleration problems. Unfortunately, she didn’t say what...

    Hello Again ¡Hola de Nuevo!

@CaraBou , welcome (back). By the way, what does not "selling soap" have to do with not soaping alot? You just need to be bit by a big giant soaping bug.🤣

Guidance sought for using stearic acid in cold process soap

Okay, I'm looking to this forum for some more guidance. This time for stearic acid. I would like to incorporate stearic acid into a recipe. This will be my first time using it. The recipe I’ve run through SoapCalc is a deviation from my basic recipe- same oils, different percentages. My goal...

    sunfllower oil

@cmzaha, I'm curious. What was the objective of your test? Not speaking from experience but just looking at the properties of the 4 oils you tested, it looks like all of them have excellent conditioning qualities, but not much else as a single oil bar. Did you toss the three other soaps...

    sunfllower oil

It wasn't clear to me because when she described the Lard bar, she said "odor 4 faint odor from cocoa butter? (odor absorber)" I now see that it said "single oil soaps" at the top of the page. So, she was thinking that lard is an "odor absorber" that picked up the scent of other bars...
