I wash everything as soon as I'm finished with the soap. I find that it seems like more work the next day, and that way all my stuff is ready to go for another day of soaping. But I can't leave dinner dishes in the sink either. I'm a bit OCD when it comes to the kitchen.
I have just started to make salt bars. I make my bars with 80% CO, 15% Grapeseed oil, 5% castor, 70% fine sea salt to oil ratio and SF @ 10%. My testers have been very happy with the results.
I used to be here all the time and heard the same complaints from my family, Ellacho. Now I set the timer on my stove for 30 mins. and drag myself away when it dings. I hate that ding!
Dorymae, great answer except that you forgot a couple of things...you have to have hard skin (ppl say the rudest things) and be willing to stay up to all hours making soap.
My bastille is recipe is 95% OO and 5% Castor with a 7% sf. It's been curing now for 7 months and no sign of DOS. I don't know about the addition of salt...I'll let someone address that question.
Some of my recipes are not far from yours and I sf @ 8% normally and have not had a problem with...
I've never been...but now I have no desire to go. No you are not being picky. I think that soap and all other products should be wrapped and sealed. Yuck!
Welcome! Sounds like you are ready to make some soap. You've done your research and there is nothing better than actually putting to practice what you have learned. Start simple...3 basic oils and no scent or color. I was very nervous about using lye in the beginning. It kept me from making...
I order from WSP and am very pleased with their service and products. They also list how the product will behave on their website with lots of reviews from customers. They offer free shipping for order over $40. I find them faster the BB.
I've never been able to figure out that advise either. The two crafts are very different.
The trick to pour eos/fos without dripping is to put a chop stick or thin wooden stick up to the lip of the bottle and let the oil drip out and down the stick. The stick controls the flow of the oil...
Congrats! I still remember my first batch and how nervous I was. LOL Did you add the coffee grounds at trace or before. If you added it before trace it would have made the stick blender work harder. I've had my sb for over a year and it's still going strong. Can't wait to see your next...
I use the same recipe as above, except I add a cup of Oxy Clean to it. After grating the soap I add a little washing soda to it and run it thru the blender until I have a fine powder. I've been using this recipe for years and it works great!
