    Deanna, I have a question...

It kind of looks like heavenly clouds (in a psychedelic sort of way) which is very fitting. You should name your soap "your soul is free now" in honor of your SB.

    Deanna, I have a question...

I'm going to hold a soap conference next year to teach this recipe. Newbie's presence will be required. It will be held in Andalusia.

    Deanna, I have a question...

Well, we all have to live with our choices :-D

    Deanna, I have a question...

Maybe we should scatter its ashes in Andalusia? Just saying...

    Really dislike palm...

I haven't used both palm and palm kernel flakes in the same recipe, but I remember that Soap Queen recommends usage up to 15% and says that it will speed up trace. Maybe someone else will chime in?? Cheers! Anna Marie

    Really dislike palm...

I'm with the others. Palm should be an easy oil to use. I find it to be very reliable and non-tempermental. Do you have a particular recipe you use where you have the most trouble??? If so, maybe we can help you trouble shoot?? Cheers! Anna Marie

    Deanna, I have a question...

I think DeeAnna needs a co-judge to help:-). I'll start looking for group package deals on Andalusian castles :-)

    Deanna, I have a question...

I just went and started zap testing all my batches from the experiments for this thread- no zaps, icky taste, burning, etc. Feel encouraged folks. I feel that hand stirring is crucial for whatever the reason to the mildness of this soap. My hand stirred ones lost the burning taste far more...

    Deanna, I have a question...

I use Kirkland oo as well. As far as method, I made a small batch recently using the classic method with only hand stirring with excellent results. I would do this again. Keep us posted:-) As a side note, I found my stir time significantly reduced when I quartered the batch (maybe I halved)...

    Deanna, I have a question...

DeeAnna, I'm happy to donate. From all appearances my experience with this soap comes closest to the most "normal" compared to the original. I could be mistaken, but when we are talking stir offs, well.....:-) Cheers! Anna Marie

In memory of the world's best kitty

So sorry- I truly am. I am still mourning the loss of my beloved kitty from a year and a half ago, and I only had her a year. I can't imagine losing a beloved pet of 18 years. They do wrap themselves around your heart....will be thinking of you. Anna Marie

    lye heavy-

If you're dealing with clumps of lye then I would toss it or rebatch the whole batch. There could be hidden clumps in other bars and lye does make nice painful holes on skin (learned this early on). If you rebatch I would probably add a little liquid and stir well. The other option is to use it...

    Deanna, I have a question...

Wow! This thread has a life of its own! My life got crazy for a couple weeks, so I thought I'd check back in and read the latest. DeeAnna, that is awesome on contacting Dr. Kevin Dunn- great thinking! I'm wondering if he's going to try experimenting with this recipe :-). I've been using my super...

Soap for people who swim a lot (chlorinated pools)

My high school aged son is on the swim team and he likes to use my lotion bars to keep his skin from drying. Lotion bars are fabulous. As far as a soap recipe goes, I'm sure a good conditioning soap with essential oils helps (and my son uses the soap I make too), but I think the addition of...

    Wish us luck....

My prayers to you Grayceworks. What an enormous stress and hassle! Hang in there. Cheers! Anna Marie

    Carrot puree and activated charcoal.

That's a fun looking bar! I love the layering of contrasting colors. Great job!

    Evenin Primrose Oil Soap Help

Did you run it through the soap calc? I just did and your bars numbers were really low in the hardness range (really low), so yes, I think this will be a very soft soap. I would recommend going to soapcalc and playing around with your percentages a bit. Coconut will definitely add some hardness...

    Deanna, I have a question...

"I'm with AnnaMarie -- hand stirring is the key. Where I (currently) differ with her is that I think a moderate amount of SB'ing is okay, especially at first. Maybe 30 seconds of SB'ing out of every 5 minutes with gentle hand stirring the rest of the time. Once it reaches trace, however, hand...

Natural emulsifier for leave-in hair product?

I don't know if this is natural enough for you, but what about btms-50? It's vegetable based. I have been looking at it on Brambleberry as I am interested in making my own conditioner. The recipe looks fun. I might have to get some marshmallow root, or better yet maybe I can grow it :-) Good...
