    Soap cutter

Years ago I bought a bud haffner wooden soap cutter which is fabulous. He now makes metal ones. Find him on Etsy. I would recommend anything he makes. You can choose any width for your soap bars mine are 1 1/4 inch as they shrink in curing and I find 1 inch too thin...

What style wooden mold do you like the best?

I don’t know. I put the holes in the molds I made because I couldn’t get the silicone molds out when I first made them. But once I had soap in the mold and I’d done it a few times it became easier s. Still it’s a good safeguard. As is the removable short end.

What style wooden mold do you like the best?

I have a 7lb loaf and a 5lb T&S from nurture. I’ve had them 8 years now and they are “as new” I made my own timber supporting molds and I’ll try and find the link on here. At first my silicone molds were difficult to get out of the timber molds. I put a large circle in the bottom of the mold...

    DOS in soap

I wouldn’t make a big batch unti you e sorted the DOS problem. Try small batches with the EOs one at a time. Soap needs airflow to cure. If there are beads of moisture on the soap you need a dehumidifier. Are you using tap water or distilled water? Are you using ROE or sodium gluconate?

Any tips for exfoliating soap for the body?

What about a salt bar? With 50% weight of batter in salt mixed into the batter. Sea salt definitely not Himalayan salt.

    Goats milk

Mix your lye with the same weight in water until it’s fully disolved. Use the rest of the water in the recipe as goats milk and add to the oils. If you want 100% goats milk add GM powder to the milk to make it up to what would be needed to turn the water mixed with the lye into milk. When you...

    Warning: Addiction

Eucalyptus oil used to remove stickers and labels from anything isn’t an FO.

Trying to solve this enigma... do you have any thoughts?

I think you should make 1lb batches until you perfect the recipe. Soap warmer 107*F for lye and batter. Doesn’t have to be thick trace to pour. By leaving on the bench uncovered you’ve got partial gel. To avoid this cover and wrap the soap in towels and leave for 18 hrs. Do not peek. This...

    Warning: Addiction

Good on you! I just made my first bath salts for Christmas presents and they turned out really well. So easy and quick! None of this CP curing time!

Trying to solve this enigma... do you have any thoughts?

I wouldn’t sell the soap in your Dec 27 post if it was mine because I want a consistent product for my customers that is perfect as can be. But that is just me. I’d use it for personal use once it’s cured and I’m sure it’s not lye pockets and maybe give it to friends. I soap at 40*C (105* F)...

    Post your Gripe

Coffee shop employed a new chef. They’d made it clear that punctuality was important. He arrived 1/2 hour late on his first day with no excuse. They fired him and he was shocked! “You can’t fire me it’s my first day.” Great attitude.

Does anyone here make their own silicone molds for CP soap?

I’ve made my own silicone mats that I cut and put inside individual cavity molds. To do this you need to make the impression on sulphur free clay then pour the silicone over it thinly. They last for years of use - despite hard scrubbing with a toothbrush and bleach.

    I used the wrong salt!

Canning salt is fine for soap. I use sea salt because I want to add all the “ingredients” from the sea into my soap!

Salycilate free or low salicylate help please!

Thank you. Yes my children and I are all sensitive to both salicylates and amines to varying degrees. We discovered it when I took my oldest son the RPA when he was 4 and kept throwing up all the time. It runs in my father’s side of the family and they were (mostly) pleased to have a concrete...

FO a high Usage Rate of 42%

Did you hand blend the FO or stick blend it in? Looks to me like it wasn’t adequately mixed in.

    Shea butter questions

I buy refined because the unrefined can come with little bits in it. Someone on this forum once found a flea in theirs but I don't know how often that happens. Buying refined will give you a consistent product if that matters to you. Same colour same scent. I buy shea that hasn't been...

Would cocoa butter be considered as drying to the skin?

This thread is old but it is a fabulous starting point for a really nice soap. NOT as a shampoo bar because it's since been disovered handmade soap isn't good for hair but for your body. https://www.soapmakingforum.com/threads/shampoo-bar-thanks-lindy.30946/

Would cocoa butter be considered as drying to the skin?

Just wait till you try a high OO soap (or any handmade soap for that matter) in 3 months, 6 months and a year! The difference is amazing and unbelievable. A friend gave me some hand made soap and I tried it and though it was pathetic as it dissolved really quickly. It was 30% palm, 30% CO, 30%...

Would cocoa butter be considered as drying to the skin?

I really can't work with the soap numbers and hardness of soap calculators because I have high olive oils soaps and the number are meaningless because olive oil is considered soft until it hardens like a rock after 6 months. So if youignore the numbers and go by feel you will find high coconut...
