why is it forming too quickly?

Also, what lye are you using? As mobjack said, pour the lye in to the water is the usual method as there is a reaction, and doing it the other way is pretty dangerous. So I'm wondering if there is a potential issue with the sort of lye you have

How do Canadian soap makers stay in business?

I am almost ashamed to admit this, but here goes - If I need a small order and the shipping from my soaping supplier would be too much (like two litres of castor oil or something) then I get it from...... Amazon! I'm willing to pay the shipping costs for a large and/or specialist order where it...

    Grrrr - Spotty Soap!

I've noticed that certain non-milks (oat milk, almond milk etc) can seem to separate in a hot drink. Maybe keep a very close eye on temperature to see if that has a bearing on it

    Fresh Lemon Juice

And of course using it in the night would avoid any photosensitive issues!

    Fresh Lemon Juice

Isn't lemon also in the category of causing photosensitivity when used topically too much?

    Soap Properties

It's never a popular response, but I suggest reading back through a lot of the recipe feedback section of the forum. You'll quickly get a great overview of what different oils and additives might bring to a recipe

    Dehumidifier or no?

Yes, but also it might cause issues. Yes, because it cause airflow on your soaps which is very helpful when curing. It might cause issues in that you never want soap to dry out too much too quickly - people experimented with dehydration (using the machines you'd use for food) and the soaps...

    Shave soap cure times

As was said, HP needs a cure like co (or even longer) but as another point I don't always cure my shaving soap as a rule as such - I can use it within a couple of days. It gets better with a cure of course, but a well made shave soap is also very much usable within the cure period I find

Save my pine tar batch? Help!!!

I would always suggest doing pine tar as hot process. The chances of getting something pretty pourable using cold process aren't great, so I'd rather gloop HP than cp!

    Beard wash

Not really - lye based soap will always be alkaline. You could make a synthetic detergent bar which isn't alkaline. Some people still do formulate shampoos using lye based soap, although many people have had bad experiences.

    Scary HP microbatch!

Just to reiterate the point above - saponification and cure time are not the same. With cp saponification is usually done after a day maybe 2, in hp when the cook is done. But the cure is something else entirely and both methods need it. I also found that hp needed a longer cure

    Mistake!

With any EO or fo swapping you need to know the maximum safe amount for that particular one. If you can use twice as much as you planned and it still be safe, it's safe to do so.

    Scary HP microbatch!

Is it set to low or high heat? That said, I can't use mine for melting oils unless I wait a long time and if I turn it up then it's too hot for the actual hp part - most likely user error though. So I end up melting my oils on the hob and then pour it in to the slow cooker for the hp part, which...

    Goat Tallow Lotion?

I once started making some whipped body butter but didn't have enough Shea for it.....so threw in some lard! I don't sell and I knew who they were going to so no worries on that front. But they preferred it to the original recipe! So yes, you could sub out a harder oil from a normal recipe, or...

    Pine tar Soap question

Too much coconut oil in a soap will give a soap which feels very "stripping" in that it will take too much of the natural oils from your skin. Most people keep their coconut amount at around 30% maximum, many more like 20% (some people and some soaps go higher than that, of course) But some...

    Men's Hair and Beard wax

I need to make some more soon and will be filming and uploading it to my channel - just not sure when! It's just oils and wax, no saponification at all. Will let you know when I do get around to it though

    Dual Lye Ingredients listing (Canada)

Don't you have to list ingredients in descending order? So depending on the ratio of your two caustics you might have to jumble it up a bit

    Ingredients list for label

Not 100% sure about Canada, but a generally safer method is using the "sodium xxoate" structure. So olive oil is listed as sodium olivate. Lard is sodium lardate and so on. As for regulations, how is it with any baked goods in the fundraiser? Usually it's not an issue as it's not actually for...
