    Salt bars are too hard

I only tried once to re-batch some ugly salt bars, I was miserable so never tried again. Faint memories as it was around 10 years ago! Perhaps it can be done. I ended up using them to clean my bathtub. Get them nice and wet and they do a pretty decent cleaning job.

Can I use 95% hard oils for cp soap ??

Completely agree with Dawni and Earlene! My own experiences with high-hard oils is similar, and I had lots of cracking (gaping cracks in some areas) and some leaking liquid throughout the batch, (log mold) (( on reflection I probably should have thrown it into the freezer once it was poured )...

    Migraine after blending eo's

everyone is different! I get a terrible headache as soon as I open a bottle of ylang!! It's the only eo I've worked with that gives me that problem (and yet it's a great blender so sometimes I just grin and bear it.)

Question about Lime EO and FO

lime does fade in eo. I have anchored it with a titch of patchouli and also used litsea as an anchor. That helps but I do find I have to use quite a bit of lime. for lime-scented soaps, once they have cured for about 4 weeks I put them into a closed container with a cotton ball that has some...

    Calling all hippies

I love the dark patch from New Directions Aromatics and also from EOU. As an aging former hippie :D I can assure you that those are authentic patchoulis and they are yummy. A little goes a long way. However, two things may be at issue: one, patchouli can be altered a bit from the oil scent...

    Anybody buy EO's from Scent-Works?

I only use SW Bulgarian Lavender and Spearmint Scotch--imo they are the best around. I've also recently bought Amyris, Rosewood and Ylang which are all very nice quality.

    Bubbles for kids?

I was thinking that kids might enjoy some handmade liquid soap colored with a little food coloring and diluted for a foamer application. It's not long-lasting bubbles in the tub but at least it gives a foamy effect that they can put onto themselves (just gotta watch the eyes, ow!)

Need a Honeysuckle FO. Please recommend a supplier.

I am in love with the Heavenly Honeysuckle from AromaHaven. (there are two, this one is the best). Very strong, very true and not too hard to work with (considering it is a floral.)

    Re-using amber FO bottles?

I take my amber glass bottles and soak them for at least a day in a hot water and (lots of) baking soda solution. Then I rinse repeatedly. I usually buy new caps because I have difficulty getting the caps clean. The other thing I do is put new fragrances or eo blends into bottles that are...

    Younger Man Scent

don't forget sandalwood-patchouli or vanilla-sandalwood. (I use a sandalwood FO to mix). Yummy!! I'd say the sandalwood patchouli and green irish tweed are my biggest sellers to younger men. Also lavender-patchouli eo blend. Haven't tried a vanilla patchouli blend but I think I'll play with that...

    DIY Household Cleaners

not necessarily a cleaner, but I make my own fabric softener. Apparently liquid fabric softener works by coating the clothes with a special substance. Also, clothes tend to feel stiff after washing/drying if there is still detergent left in them. So first step for softer clothes is to cut...

    Lavender and Peppermint

peppermint is a very strong EO. It does fade a bit over time, so you may see your lavender come back. If you mean by your post that you added 0.75 ppo of peppermint and 0.75 ppo of lavender you may find you have tingly soap. Usually most people can tolerate the mints at about 0.5 ppo. Or did...

    Borax

Borax is standardly used in liquid soap in the dilution phase to help neutralize any excess potassium hydroxide, but frankly, since most CP soaps are superfatted, I can't see any reason to add borax to them.

    Body Oils

Hi, some friendly advice: I would suggest that you start testing various combinations immediately! A month from now is really too soon to launch a product when you don't know how it will hold up over the long-term. things to think about--the purpose of the body oil...will it be an after-bath...

    What blends with cedarwood?

it's a great blender. I mix it with patch, sandalwood, lavender, lime, tangerine (add a titch of patch to any of the citrus blends as the cedarwood alone doesn't hold it all that long); lemongrass, eucalpytus. I'm sure there's more, that's just what I tend to use it for. Check out the rainbow...

candle lotion? guh? what? how the? huh?

it's supposedly skin-safe soy wax so when it's melted it's just soft soy. Very popular in my area. I know several chandlers who make and sell it. Personally it creeps me out and I just KNOW there's got to be people who won't follow the directions and will put it on too hot. Plus I am always...

    Polishing bars

this might sound strange but I use an old silver butterknife that I got at goodwill. it has a smooth blade, with no serrations like you see in some of the newer flatware. I gently draw it across bars that need a bit of cleanup--it just gets the little crumblies off, then I lightly dampen a...
