Polishing bars

Does anyone polish or buff their soap bars? How do you do it? Does it make a difference in the finished look?

I do after they cure for a least a month . Some of them just get a buff with a piece of pantyhose . Others get a scrub with a toothbrush to get ash off .Some get wiped down with a damp soft cotton rag . Salt bars get a dunk and polished until they are super smooth , I dry them well with a towel and buff them .Some soap gets a rub with canola oil , then buffed with a towel . I just basically make sure it looks nice , no divots or dings or rough edges . ( I am a little on the anal side about how the soap looks) . It does make a difference in the finished look imho . Just play with a bar or two from different batches and see what you think.

How do you polish it ?

I tried a pantyhose (these are nylon tights aren't they ?), but nothing really happened. Other than some small scratches.

this might sound strange but I use an old silver butterknife that I got at goodwill. it has a smooth blade, with no serrations like you see in some of the newer flatware. I gently draw it across bars that need a bit of cleanup--it just gets the little crumblies off, then I lightly dampen a textured facecloth and use it to give the bar a quick swab. I'm pretty quick at it and it 'shines' up the soap a little better for me. Mostly I use it on my shea butter bars, which seem to need it a bit more.
