    This is a helpful thread. I like making liquid soap paste by cold process and saving it to dilute later. I may try that method with Pilat's formulation. Again, thanks for the information. Carol.

    In my classes, we use 60:20:20, lard:coconut:olive. My everyday soap at home used 5%castor. Good stuff.

    I got my husband a Tracfone on QVC last year. 90 bucks for 1200 minutes and texts. It expires mid Dec and I'll load it up again. He has only used about half that. One charge and no monthly bill. When my iPhone gives up the ghost I'll switch to tracfone, too.

    Rendering tallow - does it smell bad

    Low and slow, like cooking good BBQ. I put it in a stainless stock pot with the lid on and render on 170F in the oven. Take it out periodically , squish with a potato masher, and strain the liquid through a paper towel lined colander. Lovely stuff. Carol in SC
